Hefner may need another surgery on right elbow


Mets right-hander Jeremy Hefner, who had been recovering from August 2013
Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, reinjured the ulnar collateral
ligament and developed a stress fracture in the ulna bone of the same arm.

Hefner may require another surgical procedure, though assistant general
manager John Ricco said it may be reconstructive surgery rather than another
Tommy John procedure.

Hefner took himself out of his third rehab start with the Port St. Lucie Mets
last Wednesday after feeling discomfort in the arm.

"I'm not sure what my course of action is," Hefner wrote in a Facebook post.
"Should have a clearer picture in the coming days. I'm disappointed, but not
shaken. I have a lot of things to be thankful for, and I'll rest in that."
