The energy seemed to emanate out of Miller Park from the moment CC
 Sabathia took the mound, with the Milwaukee crowd growing a chant in the
 first inning. "Let's Go CC," the Brewers fans said in unison, urging
 their new favorite player.

 a World Series title. There was a bold statement made in CC's debut,
 writes Michael Hunt.

 the Wrigley Field faithful, and while he is not the perfect answer to
 the Brewers' acquisition of Sabathia -- no such perfect answer existed on
 the market for the Cubs -- he could be extraordinary. Or he could fall
 apart. Cubs GM Jim Hendry understood this perfectly as he made the
 trade, and did the best he could under the circumstances; he is gambling
 on Harden's talent, in the way he used to gamble and hope that Mark
 Prior and Kerry Wood would recover from injuries. (And this year, that
 abiding faith in Wood has been justified.)

There is one difference between the Prior-Wood years and now, though:
 If Harden were to break down, the Cubs already would have an ace in
 Carlos Zambrano, and a solid group behind him, with All-Star Ryan Dempster
 and left-hander Ted Lilly. Harden could dramatically augment the
 rotation, but if not, the Cubs still will have a good set of starters.

 since February, and there's little reason to think that won't continue.

 second week of July. The Brewers are all in, with GM Doug Melvin declaring
 that Milwaukee is going for it. The Cubs are fully invested in 2008,
 trying to reverse 100 years of frustration. And the Cardinals never could
 have been in the position they are in without being all in from the
 outset. If you were to rank the 30 managers purely on their intensity and
 daily obsession with winning that day's game, then Tony La Russa, Lou
 Piniella and Ned Yost probably would all rank in the top five.
