We have compared performance of BitTyrant and existing BitTorrent
implementations on more than 100 real-world swarms as well as
synthetic swarms on the PlanetLab testbed.

On real swarms, BitTyrant improves download performance by 70%
compared to existing BitTorrent clients. Some downloads finish more
than 3 times as quickly. Regardless of capacity, using BitTyrant is
in the selfish interest of every peer individually.

However, when all peers behave selfishly, average performance
degrades for all peers, even those with high capacity.

BitThief

BitThief 是一套改自 Mainline 與 Azureus 的 Bittorrent 下載軟體，想要
知道如果惡搞 Bittorrent Protocol 的話可以做到什麼程度 XD

光聽名字你就會知道這套軟體是來亂的，因為：

1) BitThief 完全不上傳，他會跟所有的人裝做自己什麼都沒有。

2) BitThief 會很努力的連到所有的 peers，裝作什麼都沒有，於是這篇文章
   的作者發現他只開了四秒鐘他的 router 就當了 XDDDD

3) 其他的 Bittorrent 軟體會試著抓目前最少人擁有的區塊，藉以保持 torrent
   的健康度，但 BitThief 則是試著去抓所有人都有的，想辦法趕快抓完 XD

他拿 mininova 上的七個 torrent 測試，結果是：

1) 有三個 torrent 比起 Mainline 快，
2) 有兩個 torrent 差不多，
3) 有兩個比 Mainline 慢了四倍 XD

剛好前幾天有個搞笑的 "selfish" client，所以文章裡這樣寫：

The "selfish" BitTorrent client, BitTyrant suddenly looks very social
compared to BitThief. It is remarkable what people can get away with
in the name of science. Of course, it is needless to say that this
client will seriously hurt the performance of BitTorrent transfers,
and I seriously hope that it will be banned and blocked wherever
possible.

結論是，這些 client 並不會比較快，所以還是用原來的 client 吧 XD

出事了 XD

有人發現 BitThief 是 Spyware，會把使用者所下載的 torrent 資訊傳到他們
的伺服器上。

The Java based BitTorrent client continuously sends user data to
their server. Currently it collects the torrent hash, total size of
the download, the current version of the client, total number of
pieces available, and the size of these pieces. Since the data is
posted on their server, it is possible to link all this info to the
users' IP-address.

而且這個「功能」並沒有告知使用者。
