Dear Pangfeng,
Congratulations to you and your team for qualifying to compete in the
Association for Computing Machinery’s 2005 International Collegiate
Programming Contest World Finals.
The team's hard work has certainly paid off - earning a chance to compete
in the most prestigious international programming competition of its kind.
In Shanghai, the team from the National Taiwan University will take its
place on stage among more than 200 of the best collegiate programmers from
all over the world.
We at IBM are excited to be a part of the World Finals, as we are proud to
collaborate closely with educators in order to better prepare college
students for IT careers. The IBM Academic Initiative is another exciting
program, offering many benefits to partnering colleges and universities in
support of technology education on a worldwide scale. This support helps
to ensure that universities have the most up-to-date curricula that are
relevant to the career aspirations of their students.
You may have been reading about this year’s ICPC Challenge, where the
contestants will be building applications on IBM’s Blue Gene/L. It is the
fastest supercomputer in the world, and is being used to solve some of the
most complex problems across a variety of industries. The ICPC Challenge
will be a rare opportunity for students to work with such processing
power.
IBM has been sponsoring the ACM ICPC World Finals for the past seven
years, and we could not be happier with the results. Participation in the
ACM ICPC has increased five-fold since 1997, which means the road to the
world championships has become even more challenging – and the trophy
even more coveted. Each year, the World Finals event has proven to be
increasingly exciting, as the teams battle down to the very last minute.
When your team travels to Shanghai this April, they will be proudly
representing your university, as well as showing their strength and
abilities in the exciting field of computer science. We are sure they will
pursue their future careers with the same dedication and spirit with which
they enter this contest
Good luck as you prepare for your journey to Shanghai and your chance to
compete against the world’s best collegiate programmers. We at IBM will
be cheering for you!
