Doha, Qatar (Sports Network) - Second-seeded Russian Anastasia Myskina was among Friday's quarterfinal winners, but third-seeded Bulgarian Magdalena Maleeva was not as fortunate at the $170,000 Qatar Open tennis tournament. The world No. 11 Myskina dismissed fellow Russian Dinara Safina 6-2, 7-5, while another Russian, fifth-seeded Elena Likhovtseva, leveled Maleeva 6-4, 6-2 on the outdoor hardcourts at Khalifa International Tennis Complex. In Day 5's other round-of-eight matchups, Russian Lina Krasnoroutskaya took advantage of injured seventh-seeded Spaniard Conchita Martinez, 7-6 (7-4), 4-0, retired, and Austrian Patricia Wartusch posted one of the day's three upsets with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision against eighth-seeded Aussie Nicole Pratt. The former Wimbledon champion Martinez gave way to an ankle injury. The upstart Krasnoroutskaya took out top-seeded and defending champion Monica Seles in the second round. Saturday's semis will feature three Russians, as Myskina will meet Wartusch and Likhovtseva will face Krasnoroutskaya in an all-Russian affair.
