Attila The Hun Defeats Henman In Dubai Tennis Championships Battle

Tim Henman was edged out of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Tuesday, losing
5-7 7-6 6-4 to Hungary's Attila Savolt in a two hour 47-minute marathon centre
court battle.

The fourth seed Brit, playing only his second event since October after
undergoing surgery to his right shoulder, matched his opponent all the way and
held off three match points before finally conceding.

"There were so many different emotions," said Henman. "It was great to be out
there competing with very little thought to my shoulder. And now having lost a
match like that I feel very, very frustrated and disappointed.

"I know I am going to have to be patient, but it doesn't hide my frustration at
this moment in time. I was out there in a dogfight and I wanted to come through
it. Unfortunately I came up short. It's about getting matches under my belt,
and after playing for over two and a half hours it's a big positive for me that
my shoulder feels as good as it does."

Second seed Marat Safin enjoyed an easy victory over Alex Waske, winning 6-4
6-2, and he will now face Tommy Robredo, who overcame Jonas Bjorkman 6-2 6-3.
Sixth seed Sjeng Shalken also won in straight sets, beating Mikhail Youzhny 7-5
6-0, but Yevgeny Kafelnikov received a warning for firing a ball at the umpires
chair on his way to a 6-2 4-6 6-3 win over John Van Lottum.

In other matches, Australian Open finalist Rainer Schuettler struggled past
Zeljko Krajan 6-4 2-6 6-3, and Ivan Ljubicic beat qualifier Wayne Black 7-5
6-3.

The Dubai Tennis Championships, which is owned and organized by Dubai Duty Free
and held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence, UAE, takes place at the Dubai
Tennis Stadium from 24th February to 2nd March.
