Midfielder Filipe Pleased With Roma Debut
The Brazilian is overjoyed at his first appearance in Giallorosso and admits
that coach Spalletti congratulated him after the game with Siena.
21-year-old Brazilian midfielder Filipe Gomes Ribeiro made his official Roma
debut yesterday as the Lupi edged out Siena 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
Filipe replaced compatriot Cicinho in the second period and could not hide
his joy after the final whistle.
“I want to thank my agent, my friends and my family,” he told the Roma
Channel.
“I have to admit that I even thought about quitting football at one point,
but I have finally proved that I can make it and I am happy to have debuted
in Serie A and play with this shirt.”
Filipe was brought to Italy by Fiorentina, but was hindered by knee problems
during his spell in Tuscany and was snapped up by Roma in 2008 after
rescinding his contract with the Viola.
“I will keep working hard in order to find more space,” continued the young
prospect.
“When you are surrounded by these champions, it’s easy to learn the
tactics. I was nervous at the beginning and it was pretty normal, but [coach
Luciano] Spalletti complimented me in the end.
