The mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, has revealed he is studying the best ways to ensure the Champions League final on May 27 is a trouble free event. Alemanno is working hard alongside the authorities, after the the local police threatened to strike on the day of the final, which will see Spanish giants Barcelona clash with reigning champions Manchester United. There have been widespread fears of violence, with many calling for the final to be moved. But UEFA have insisted the event will take place in Rome, and now the 51-year-old far right politician is busy trying to find ways of curbing potential trouble between rival fans. "The day of the Champions League final will be very delicate," Alemanno told La Repubblica. "We are working alongside the Police to study the best ways to keep distruption to citizens to a minimum, while keeping security tight, as we want to avoid trouble." Fans wanting a pre-match drink may be left disappointed, as the mayor has revealed there will be a ban on alcohol sales in and around the stadium. Asked if alcohol sales would be stopped, he replied, "There will be measures of caution to reduce the risk of incidents." The Olimpico has been a bit of a hotspot for trouble lately and English fans, in particular, have found themselves clashing with both locals and the police in recent years.
