Roma Duo Philippe Mexes & Jeremy Menez To Receive France Calls – Report
Laurent Blanc's squad is starting to take shape...
Philippe Mexes and Jeremy Menez are two of the 14 players who have been put
on alert as they have received documentation from the French FA that means
they could be included in Laurent Blanc’s first France squad, radio station
RMC have reported.
The Roma duo were controversially and persistently excluded by former boss
Raymond Domenech, though the one-match ban on all 23 of les Bleus’ World Cup
finalists imposed by Blanc will benefit the Serie A based duo.
L’Equipe also names several other players who will be involved in the party
that will travel to Norway for a friendly on August 11. They include Valencia
left-back Jeremy Mathieu, the Lille quintet of Adil Rami, Mathieu Debuchy,
Florent Balmont, Rio Mavuba and Yohan Cabaye, and Wigan Athletic’s Charles N
’Zogbia.
Olympique Lyonnais will be represented by Bafetimbi Gomis and Jimmy Briand,
who combined to score three goals in a recent pre-season friendly against
Nottingham Forest, while Aly Cissokho will also be convened.
Stade Rennais goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez is set for a place in the squad, as
is Stephane Ruffier, who was belatedly called into the France World Cup squad
as an injury replacement for Cedric Carrasso but was never officially
ratified as part of the team.
It is unknown how many players Blanc has put on standby before he finalises
his squad on August 5.
