A postdoctoral position in Statistical Machine Learning for a Clinical
Application

About Us: We are a multi-disciplinary research group working on data
analysis for clinical and biological studies. Our institute, the
Bioinformatics Institute, is nicely located in a research hub in the
beautiful city nation of Singapore.
This is an exciting project on intelligent glaucoma (eye disease) risk
assessment. This is a highly inter-disciplinary project and our
collaborators are leading experts in ophthalmology. For this project we
have already collected some unique datasets from the clinics and will
collect a few large-scale datasets. The developed techniques will be
used on a daily basis in many clinics in Singapore and worldwide.
We are seeking a highly motivated applicant to join us. The applicant is
expected to be interested in doing research, to investigate
computational approaches and build up predictive models for Glaucoma
risk analysis. For this purpose, the applicant should be familiar with
machine learning techniques, and in particular discriminative learning,
classification and ranking, random forests, and graphical models.
The job scope can be summarized as follows:
(1) Develop novel, state-of-the-art statistical machine learning
techniques for practical application to Glaucoma risk analysis;
(2) Produce high quality research publications on related topics;
(3) Work closely with eye doctors from the Singapore Eye Research
Institute, and the National Univerisity Hospitals;
(4) Develop prototypes in C++ or Java;
(5) Work closely with a dedicated software engineer. The software
engineer will convert prototypes developed in research into a user
friendly Java application.
The start date is flexible and is expected to be around July-Oct 2011.
The position is for 2 years with a possibility for renewal.
