Principal Investigator Position in Bioimaging Informatics

The Imaging Informatics Division at the Bioinformatics Institute (BII),
Agency of Science and Technology Research (A*STAR), Republic of Singapore,
invites applications for a junior or senior principal-investigator (PI)
position in the area of bioimage informatics. The successful candidate will
establish and lead an independent research team in the division that focuses
on the development of automated image analysis methods of cells/tissues and
their application for the understanding of biomolecular mechanisms in a
biologically or clinically relevant problem, for example in cancer biology,
developmental biology, cell biology, systems biology or biomechanics.

BII has a strong focus on internationally competitive fundamental research as
well as on translational outreach towards clinical and industrial
applications. The Imaging Informatics Division is multi-disciplinary with a
wide range of expertise in computer vision and machine learning and its
relevance with regard to developmental biology, systems biology and clinical
medicine. Advanced computer and microscopic facilities are available within
BII.

Interested candidates with the following credentials may send an email
application to Dr. Lee Hwee Kuan:

Ph.D. degree in a relevant area and a notable publication record, Strong
analytical skills, especially in the area of bioimage informatics
applications. Experienced in combining computational methodologies with
biological experimental work to further biological discoveries.

Interested applicants should send their CV, statement of research interests
and the names and addresses of three references. The application is expected
to be accompanied with the outline of a research project that the applicant
plans to work on during his time as PI in BII. We are looking for a candidate
who is independent-minded, can work well in a team environment, and willing
to collaborate with experimental laboratories.

The job scope includes:

* Application of automated bioimage analysis to a relevant biological or
clinical problem with the goal of elucidating genome-phenotype relationships
and the mechanisms linking the two.

* Recruit and lead an independent group.
Involvement in education of PhD students and, to a minor degree, of MSc
students.

The position provides a three-year unlimitedly renewable contract with
competitive benefits. The search will continue until the position is filled

是的..其實我自己也想 apply..不過 A-STAR 流程上需要有相當數量的候選人..所以某一
種程度上我是在幫忙找我自己未來的老闆 XD

→ puec2:我有在用HTS不知道能不能去應徵
其實基本上我們想要找生醫背景, 從 wet lab 出來, 但是也真的懂 Pattern
Recognition and Machine Intelligence 的..因為我正好反過來, 是作 Machine
Learning 但是一直泡在 web lab 裡. 所以除沒真的沒有人, 我才會有一丁點機會可以被
選上 XD

→ hoch:台灣背景要很努力。加油。我已經脫離 A*Star 的荼毒。
早些年是如此, 這幾年他們政府受到選票的壓力, 政策上愈來愈偏向 singaporean. 他們
這次選後因為執政黨支持率不如理想, 所以政策上愈來愈討好 singaporean, 還喊出了
singaporean first 的口號. 今年有提出許多政策都形成壓力要我們 PR 轉換成 citizen.
是說討好選民本來就是應該的. 誰叫 PR 沒投票權..不過台灣好像相反, 選後 citizen
就......

A-STAR 的話, 我覺得每個 institute 風格都差很多. 我個人覺得在 BII 還有 I2R 工作
都還滿愉快的..雖然組織上 postdoc 是 under 某個 PI, 但其實你願意的話, 也是可以自
己申請 grant 來作 (其實要在 A-STAR 升 PI 的話, 這個好像也是必備的經歷). 不過要
在這裏生存下去真的要不怕競爭就是了..

推 SmileFace:新加坡的確這幾年是越來越保護本地人了..相對外國人空間
→ SmileFace:也被壓縮不少..包括申請grant的難易度 XD
還好我已經 localized.. 機會稍大一點..

今天得到一個新的訊息..A-STAR 的 postdoc 可以申請 Career Development Award
或 Project Grant, 通過的話就等於昇等為 PI..

不過一年只有3+1個名額..
