※Postdoctoral Researcher in Information Systems, for a period of three years Department of Information Processing Science and the INTERACT/EveLINE research group (http://www.oulu.fi/tol/node/20094 , http://www.oulu.fi/eveline/ ) at the University of Oulu, Finland, has an opening for one (1) postdoctoral researcher position in Information Systems. At the department of Information Processing Science, there are eight professors in the fields of information systems and software engineering. Faculty members of the department have published their research in leading information systems and software engineering journals. The INTERACT/EveLINE research group focuses on research themes of participation, inclusion, empowerment and agency in the context of information and communication technology (ICT). The group undertakes research related to understanding and supporting participatory design, user-centered design, user innovation and human interaction with ICT in divergent everyday life contexts. Recently, a particular focus has been on understanding and strengthening children’s and young people’s participation and agency in issues concerning their life. Another research stream has concentrated on understanding and supporting more open and democratic development approaches, open source software development as special focus of study. Generally, the research group acknowledges that ICT has become intertwined and embedded in almost all parts of our everyday life, including leisure and civic activity, thereby establishing new forms of participation and design. Hence, “users” cannot be considered as passive consumers anymore, but at least as content producers if not even as (co-)designers and innovators. This calls for reconsidering the traditional understandings of the roles of users and designers as well as for different development approaches that place emphasis on people’s empowerment and inclusion in designing, shaping, innovating and co-creating ICT in their everyday life. The INTERACT/EveLINE research group has strong background in multidisciplinary research, combining perspectives from both humanistic and ICT oriented disciplines. The group relies on qualitative and participatory research approaches. The research performed by the postdoctoral researcher should fit or complement the above mentioned research themes. ※Job Responsibilities and Required Qualifications The duties of the post-doctoral researcher include scientific research on the field in question, international collaboration, teaching of undergraduate and post-graduate courses and supervision of theses. The required qualifications for the post include a doctoral degree. PhD students near completion can also apply. When assessing the applicant’s merits, issues to be considered will include scientific publications, teaching experience, theses supervised, activity in the scientific community, success in acquiring supplementary (extramural) funding, scientific work abroad, and other international activities. The annual salary of the Postdoctoral Researcher is about 42 000 to 57 000 Euros, based on the qualifications of the candidate. The salary is paid for 12 months in a year. Additionally, faculty members are entitled to health care benefits. A good applicant has a proven record of high quality scientific research and publications, preferably in one of the focus areas. The research to be performed by the candidate must fit or complement the focus areas. The INTERACT/EveLINE research group has strong commitment to perform cutting edge research that is publishable in top information systems and related journals. Hence, the candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to perform research that is publishable in such journals. In evaluating the applicants, future potential to publish research in premier information systems journals is emphasized. ※Application Procedure The applicants must send in a certified CV, list of publications and academic portfolio (academic/teaching portfolio). In addition, we require the applicant to show in free format research statement how her/his career and plans fit the above mentioned focus areas and how her/his strengths support our activities in the future. It is recommendable to include two letters of reference or email addresses of two senior academics willing to provide more information.
