I know that both reporters and fans have been following Casey Kotchman's
exploits in Puerto Rico through that league's official web site,
www.hitboricua.com, that I posted a few weeks ago. Casey is with Arecibo.
That site's statistics are sporadically updated (and I don't speak Spanish),
so it's hard to get current info on Casey's exploits.
So I wanted to pass along that a reliable source told me there was a game a
couple weeks ago that wasn't included in the stats because it was suspended
until season's end. In that game, Casey was 2 for 4 with a homer and 4 RBI.
I'm also told that in a doubleheader last night, Casey was 4-for-6 with a homer
and double, raising his average to .302 (16 for 53).
Winter league stats, of course, are pretty meaningless. The important thing
is that Casey is healthy. But he's productive, and that can be taken as a
good sign that he'll report to spring training without too much ground to make
up after losing 2006 to mononucleosis.
