講題：Over There: Metropolitan Indifference and the Changing forms of
Longdistance Nationalism
（彼方：世界性的漠視差異，以及遠程國族主義的變遷形式）

The modal 19th-century example to illustrate this is the Philippines and
Spain. Youngsters from the Philippines in Spain found that in Spain no one
cared whether they were Chinese descended, creoles, mestizos, etc. They were
all "Filipinos," whereas in the colony these groups were sharply delineated,
antagonistic, and socially extremely visible. In the colony "Filipino" meant
only creole. Today in the US no one really cares you come from China or Japan,
Indonesia or Malaysia -- you are all "Asians." But almost no one in Johore
or Nagasaki thinks of themselves as "Asian."
