給學生一個禮拜的時間
可是還是有人沒交、有人亂寫
所以我決定把他們當掉
不過我最高給到96分喔

Please answer each question in one to two pages.

1.Summarize the semiotic study of signs in your own words, referring three
examples in the assigned reading and another three mentioned in class to
illustrate it. After that, analyze an ad or a commercial as your own choice
with the concepts of sign, signifier, and signified. (20%)
2.Describe a popular ritual activity in your life with the categories of
rituals as well as other relative issues, for example, consumption,
associating with the ritual. (20%)
3.Choose one of the questions below to answer (20%):
a. Who is/are your hero(es)? Why? Do(es) the hero(es) reflect the basic
cultural beliefs and values in your own mind? If so, what are those
beliefs and values? If not, why?
b. Analyze a heroic story with the formula of the heroic mono-myth.
4.What do you think is globalization? Why do you think people in other
countries such as France against Americanization? Do you feel your life
being influenced by other countries/cultures? Use the articles and the
concepts of hegemony, cultural imperialism we discussed in class to explain
it. (20%)
5.What's the region in which you recognize as your neighborhood? What are the
factors influence you to establish the sense of neighborhood? Use a map or
easy drawing by yourself to illustrate it, and then discuss some activities
and behaviors happen in your daily life involving with the feeling for you
to distinguish your private space, neighborhood, and the society outside your
neighborhood. Finally, discuss that which one you think that influences you
more: your neighborhood or the world outside that. And why? (20%)
