LONDON, Aug 25 (SW) - Atletico Madrid旧 offer for Jose Antonio Reyes has been o
fficially turned down by Arsenal, despite the winger旧 desire to return to Spai
n.
It had been rumoured that the 22 year old would be joining Real Madrid this sum
mer, but transfer negotiations have come to a standstill after a fee could not
be agreed for the player.
Atletico president Enrique Cerez had announced that the Spanish club had also m
ade an offer for Reyes. However Arsenal have now announced that this bid was un
satisfactory.
"As it stands today, Jose Antonio Reyes is an Arsenal player and he may very we
ll remain an Arsenal player," said Gunners vice-chairman David Dein.
He added, "They (Atletico) have made an offer which has been rejected."
So far Arsene Wenger has not played Reyes in both of the London clubs?Champions
League qualifying games, but has stressed that this is not down to the transfe
r talk surrounding the player.
