Thierry Henry Exclusive Interview: 'It's Arsenal’s title ... if they have
the belief and a brawn leader'

ARSENAL will be crowned Premier League champions this - season, believes
Gunners legend Thierry Henry.
They just need a little more self-belief ... and some of the old Tony
Adams-Martin Keown fire in their bellies.
Henry has been training with Arsene Wenger’s stars before returning to
America where he plays for New York Red Bulls.
And it has given the club’s all-time leading scorer the chance of a unique
close-up of the Arsenal team as they chase a first trophy since winning the
FA Cup in 2005.
The 33-year-old Frenchman said: “Arsenal can do it this season, I am certain
of that – they can win the title.
“They just need to believe – the only thing missing is that self-belief
because everything else is in place.
“I have trained with them, and the intensity, skill and desire are all
there. All that’s missing is the confidence to believe you can do it.
“No one is playing the kind of - football they are able to produce, so they
are very close to winning the league again.”
But there have been question marks over skipper Cesc Fabregas, with team-mate
Denilson insinuating that the Spaniard, although a fabulously gifted player,
is no leader.
There were no leadership issues when Henry played for Arsenal – and he still
winces at the battering he used to take in training.
Henry clearly remembers the likes of Adams and Keown ‘educating’ him in the
art of being a Gunner.
He said: “We had players who - believed we would win. And you had to be the
same, otherwise ... look out!
“When I arrived in 1999 I’d won the World Cup with France and then a year
later we won the European - Championship.
“But that did not stop them roughing me up in training. They wanted me to
understand what it was like to play for Arsenal. What it was like to play for
Arsenal against Tottenham – so they kicked me! Well, Martin did.
“Guys like Adams, Keown, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn and David Seaman never
believed they were second best.
“Those players instilled in me what it meant to be an Arsenal player – they
helped make me the player I was with Arsenal.
“The game is a little different now and maybe players would not get away
with doing that to their own team-mates, but it showed me what it meant to
them to play for Arsenal.
“They wanted every player to feel the same and after what they ‘taught’ me
I certainly did!”
Henry was one of Arsenal’s title-winning Invincibles – but this season it
is rivals Manchester United who remain on course to go through an entire
season unbeaten.
Henry added: “United have a chance to be Invincibles like we were in 2004.
“People have asked me if they can do it. Yes, of course they can. Anything
is - possible when you have the - confidence and belief.
“But Chelsea can still come again – it’s not too late for them. They have
to play United twice so they still have a chance if they win those games.
“Manchester City are strong, too, but for Arsenal the league title can be
theirs this season and I think Arsene knows that. If the players believe it
then they will win.”
Henry admits much of his motivation came not just from the boot of
team-mates, but also from abusive fans.
He said: “I miss the away games in England where fans would be - having a go
at you. The only way to answer them was to score and when you did, there was
no feeling like it. I will - always miss that.
“Playing in England is one of the most - exciting things for a - footballer.
In America there is not the same amount of - pressure, so it’s a different
experience.
“Football is part of life in England whereas in America it’s still a
growing professional sport.
“The fans who go do get - behind their team, but nothing could match a game
against Tottenham or Manchester United for passion. And that’s what I miss
most.”

亨利：阿森納奪冠要靠自信 當年基翁曾經狠踢我
亨利表示，阿森納本賽季能否奪冠關鍵看他們有沒有信心，昔日槍王還披露，當年基翁如
何教他成為一名真正的槍手，亨利還點評了曼聯不敗可能，以及切爾西的奪冠形勢……
亨利目前正在阿森納訓練，以保持狀態迎接美國大聯盟的新賽季，當然，對於老東家連續
5年四大皆空的尷尬，亨利也是非常關心，這名昔日槍王堅信，阿森納本賽季一定能夠奪
冠。
《人物報》：當年基翁教我如何做一名槍手
33歲的亨利幫助阿森納在2005年奪得了足總杯冠軍，但法國人相信今年也將會是槍手的收
穫年：「阿森納本賽季可以奪冠，我對此非常肯定，他們可以贏得聯賽冠軍，他們只是需
要相信自己，他們現在唯一缺的就是自信，因為他們其他什麼都不缺了，我已經和他們一
起訓練，他們的努力、技巧和渴望都已經有了，唯一缺的就是相信自己可以做到，沒有人
可以踢出他們的漂亮足球，因此他們非常接近再次贏得聯賽冠軍了。」
但日前德尼爾森曾質疑法佈雷加斯只是一個天才球員，或者簡單的場上隊長，而並非領袖
，這也讓亨利想起了當初他剛到阿森納時是如何被打造成一名真正的槍手的：「我們當時
的球員都堅信我們可以贏下每場比賽，如果你不同意，那麼你就要留神，當我剛剛在1999
年加盟，我已經和法國隊贏得世界盃冠軍，一年後，我還贏得了歐洲盃冠軍，但那並沒有
阻止他們在訓練中粗暴對待我，他們想要我理解為阿森納效力意味著什麼，為阿森納出戰
熱刺意味著什麼，因此他們真的踢我，是的，馬丁（基翁）踢過我。」
「像亞當斯、基翁、迪克遜、溫特伯恩和西曼這些球員，他們從來不相信他們只是第二出
色的，這些球員慢慢給我灌輸了成為一個阿森納球員的概念，他們幫助我成長為一個真正
的阿森納球員，現在比賽有點不同了，也許球員們不會再在訓練中這樣對自己的隊友，但
我要向他們展示，為阿森納效力意味著什麼，他們想要每個球員的想法都一樣，在他們教
了我之後，我當然也這麼想！」
亨利是阿森納03/04不敗賽季團隊的一員，但本賽季曼聯同樣也有機會創造另一個不敗神
話，對此亨利說：「曼聯當然有機會像我們在 2004年那樣不敗，人們問我他們是否可以
做到，是的，當然他們有機會，任何事情都是有可能的，當你擁有自信和信念的話。但切
爾西仍會捲土重來，他們還有機會，他們必須要和曼聯踢2場，如果他們贏了，他們還有
機會，曼城也很強，但對於阿森納來說，聯賽冠軍也可以是他們的，我認為阿爾塞尼知道
這點，如果球員們相信，他們就會贏。」
亨利還向人們描述了在美國踢球的不同之處：「我很懷念在英格蘭踢客場的比賽，那裡的
球迷總會辱罵你，你唯一的回答就是進球，當你做到這個，你就會無比暢快，我一向懷念
這個，足球在英格蘭是生活的一部分，在美國，那只是一種正在成長起來的職業運動，那
裡的球迷也會來支持你，但氣氛無論如何都無法與曼聯 vs熱刺的比賽相比，那就是我最
懷念的東西。」
