Cesc - I respect officials
Spaniard admits frustration but denies serious wrongdoing
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas insists he respects match officials following
an alleged incident against Everton on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old Gunners skipper has been accused by Toffees manager David
Moyes of 'disgusting' comments to the officials at half-time during the clash
at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal eventually won the encounter 2-1 but were one down at the break after
Louis Saha controversially put the visitors ahead, despite scoring from a
blatantly offside position.
Fabregas has been accused of confronting referee Lee Mason and the officials
although Arsene Wenger has denied such an incident ever took place.
The Spaniard will face no action from the Football Association as Mason did
not submit an Extraordinary Incident Report, meaning there will be no
investigation.
Fabregas claims that he has the utmost respect for officials, although
concedes he was frustrated at half-time.
"There has been much talk about me saying things to the officials at
half-time on Tuesday night.
All I can say is that I have respect for all
match officials," he told Arsenal's official website.
"Their job is a very difficult one and their decisions are final.
Upset
"Yes, I was upset at half-time. So too were about 60,000 Arsenal supporters
in the stadium.
"We were one-nil down against a very good Everton side to a goal which we
felt was offside. Of course I am going to be upset.
"Players from both sides were saying things as we came off the pitch, and
this always happens in football.
"I'm passionate about this club and like all the players want to win every
single match, so many things are said in the heat of the moment.
"Clearly the officials feel that nothing serious happened, as I understand
the referee has not included anything in his match report.
"I just want to focus on our next match, which is another big challenge at
Newcastle on Saturday."
It is not the first time Fabregas has been accused of poor behaviour by
opposition staff at the Emirates.
In 2009 he was accused of spitting at then Hull City assistant Brian Horton
by manager Phil Brown in the aftermath of an FA Cup tie in North London,
however, he denied the allegations.

Wenger hits back at Moyes
Gunners boss hits back in Cesc ref row
Wenger said: "Cesc Fabregas has not said anything to the referee. Cesc
Fabregas has not been charged, so the story for me is over.
"I believe it is wrong for Moyes to come out with what he pretends to have
heard in the tunnel.
"If I come out with what I have heard in the tunnel in the last 10 years you
would be amazed. I think there is a rule in our job to
never come out with
what is said in the heat of the moment. That usually is respected by
everybody.
"If Cesc is guilty, he would have been charged. He has not been charged by
the FA, there is no action against him, so I don't see why we should spend
any more time defending someone who is not guilty.
"For me, the incident is closed.
"If you play football with your friends you sometimes go in at half-time and
say something that you are not very proud of 24 hours later, but it is in the
heat of the moment."
Fantastic leader
Asked if he thought there was a witch hunt against Fabregas, the Arsenal
manager replied: "Yes. We are long enough in the job to know that somebody
picks on you for a while, and you are in the heat of the moment.
"But for me what is the most important is the player behaves well.
When Cesc
is on the pitch, he tries to play football - I cannot say everybody who plays
against him tries to do that.
"For example, some people reproach him for not exchanging shirts with a
player after the game - but I hope he will not exchange shirts with players
who try to kick him for 90 minutes and them come to say 'please can I get
your shirt'.
"I think that is a normal and natural reaction. Overall this guy is an
example on the football pitch and shows you how to play football.
"People are more demanding, and Cesc has to live with that. It is not easy,
but he is a very intelligent man and he will learn very quickly to cope with
that.
"Cesc is 24 this year, he has played 250 games in the Premier League - at
that age, it is absolutely remarkable.
"He has gone through a lot, difficult moments, but has always come out
stronger - this guy is a fantastic leader."
