太空人用draft and follow簽下04年選秀第47輪的Corey Bass Pearl River Community College pitcher Corey Bass signed a baseball contract with the Houston Astros on Sunday. Bass, who played high school ball at Petal, had a 7-2 record this past season at Pearl River. "It's every kid's dream to play professional baseball," Bass said. Last year, Bass was selected in the 47th round of the Major League Baseball draft and was signed Sunday by Astros scout Mike Rosamond as a draft follow. He will report to the Greenville (Tenn.) Astros short-season Class A Appalachian League team in the next couple of weeks. Bass said there was little decision to make on whether to turn pro or play at a four-year school. "I figured 'Why wait?'" Bass said. Bass, who throws a fastball in the low 90s, a curveball and a change-up, was used as a starting pitcher by Pearl River coach Jay Artigues. But he said he didn't know whether he would start or relieve for the Astros. "I'll just see where they fit me in best," he said. Rosamond said Bass has shown improvement in the past year. "His biggest improvement from last year to now is that he has improved with his command of all of his pitches," Rosamond said. "That's pretty big when you're going into professional baseball. Command is one thing you've got to have when you're facing good hitters up and down the lineup. "Corey really worked hard from last year to now to get to this point." Russ Nixon is the Greenville manager. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.67.213.36
