( July 11th 2005 ) ?The Yankees have until today to trade or release
designated left-hander Mike Stanton. Afforded the chance to become a free
agent, Stanton said he would entertain an Astros offer.
"It looks like they could use some help in the bullpen," Stanton said. "
They're definitely a team I'd consider. I don't think it will take very
long [to sign]."
A Houston native, Stanton still has a home in that area.
The Astros aren't the only team hoping to land Mike Standon. The Nationals,
Braves, Cardinals, and Marlins have also expressed interest.
"Obviously, the team has to show interest in me also," said Stanton, who
will receive the prorated share of the $316,000 league minimum from his new
club. "It's not just up to me. We'll have to wait until whenever we can talk
to teams openly and see what develops."
