Another rumor
The Astros plan to pursue a big bat before the deadline and
could use Brad Lidge as bait, according to FOXSports.com's
Ken Rosenthal. A problem with using Lidge is that the clubs
with bats to sell (Washington and Milwaukee primarily) don't
need to bring in a closer due $5 million-$6 million in 2007,
plus has some long-term issues that need to be worked out.
Lidge for Bobby Abreu might make sense, as the Phillies could
then trade Tom Gordon for prospects. However, that might be
too much salary for the Astros to take on and Abreu has a
no-trade clause he'd have to waive.
