The Astros had won the Appalachian League title in their first season in dramatic fashion over the Danville Braves. The memories still linger as most of that special group have continued to ascend their way up the minor league ladder towards the dream, Major League Baseball. Those dreams are not only limited to the players. Tim Bogar had a nine-year major league playing career that included stints with the New York Mets, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers. After his playing days were over, Bogar began his managerial career in 2004 with the Greeneville Astros during their inaugural season. The team finished with a 41-26 (.612) record and won the Appalachian League championship. Bogar won Manager of the Year. He was promoted to manage the Astros' A affiliate Lexington Legends in 2005. The Legends had a league best 82-57 record, and Bogar was selected as the South Atlantic League Manager of the Year. Bogar is currently in his second season as the manager of the Akron Aeros, which is the AA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. In 2006, Bogar led the Aeros to a league best 87-55 record and fell one game short of winning the Eastern League title. He was named Eastern League manager of the year, and was selected by Baseball America as the "Best Manager Prospect" in the Eastern League in 2006. The Aeros are on track again this season as they currently lead their division. In addition, Bogar has also been selected to coach in Major League Baseball's Future's All-Star Game in both 2006 and 2007. Bogar's career managerial record is currently 263-175 (.600).
