HOUSTON (AP)—The Astros have agreed to one-year contracts with their last two
players in salary arbitration, giving Wandy Rodriguez $2.6 million and Geoff
Geary $1.7 million.
Rodriguez, a 30-year-old left-hander, was 9-7 with a 3.54 ERA in 25 starts for
the Astros last year. Geary, a 32-year-old right-hander, was 2-3 with a
career-best 2.53 ERA in 55 appearances for Houston in 2008. He played for the
Phillies from 2003-2007.
Rodriguez had asked for a raise from $451,000 to $3 million in arbitration and
had been offered $2.25 million. Geary had requested a raise from $1,125,000 to
$2.1 million and had been offered $1,425,000.
Houston previously settled with right-hander Brandon Backe ($1.55 million) and
left-hander Tim Byrdak ($1 million).
