2. Athletics: Mark Canha, 1b/of (Marlins; picked by Rockies, acquired in trade
for RHP Austin House).

Scouting Report: Canha arguably was the most major league ready player taken
in the Rule 5 draft. A seventh-round pick out of California in 2010, Canha has
1,750 pro at-bats. While he’s not likely an everyday first baseman, the A’s
are very innovative with their platoons and he might be able to find a role in
a very crowded A’s first base picture.

Chances To Stick: 50-50.

Mark Canha, 1b, Marlins: A team looking for a backup corner bat could be
interested. Canha has an above-average hit tool with average power. Primarily
a first baseman, he can play third base or left field in a pinch, which gives
him a potential backup role. He faced a numbers game with the Marlins, as
Justin Bour (on the 40-man roster) has a pretty similar profile.

[JS]2. Colorado Rockies, Mark Canha, 1B, Marlins: TRADED TO ATHLETICS:

Age 25, a seventh round pick from the University of California in 2010, hit
.303/.384/.505 in 465 at-bats for Triple-A New Orleans with 20 homers. Despite
the home runs, his pure hitting skills are rated more highly than his raw
power, though he has nothing left to prove in Triple-A. He should have a
decent chance to stick.
