英文即將滿百萬字 還背字典嗎？

再有人說學英文要背字典，不妨叫他自己慢慢背，因為英文即將要有一百萬個字了。

美國有一群人從六年前起，每天到處搜尋新出現的英文字，然後把這些字放進他們的資料
庫裏。據他們估算，英文每天會有十四點七個字加入，現在有九十多萬字，到下個月十號
就會出現第一百萬字。

他們現在已經收集了一些字，只不過還不知道，到時候是哪個字會以第一百萬字的順序進
入資料庫。現在有可能成為第一百萬字的有defriend(去友)，把某人從自己的朋友名單中
踢除，greenwashing(漂綠)，經過包裝看起來環保，noob(菜鳥)，一種新網路遊戲。

莎士比亞時代，也就是三百多年前，英文只有十萬字。莎士比亞覺得不夠用，自己創造了
大約一千七百個新字。這一陣子，造字的名人是美國前總統布希。他常因為不小心說錯話
，而創造新字。例如「錯誤低估」(misunderestimate)就是他的傑作。
