2017TFFIB’s opening film: Kano is about a Taiwanese multicultural baseball
team in which seen braving hurt and humiliation to defeat their more
established opponents at the annual Japanese high-school championships in
1931. This baseball team made up of farm boys from Kagi 嘉義 in southern
Taiwan. Kano is an abbreviated name for the Kagi Agriculture and Forestry
Public School, whose baseball team went from a losing record to unprecedented
honor at Japan’s grandest youth sports event within a year. Kano’s
achievements laid the foundation for Taiwan’s professional sports
development.
