The NBA competition committee is meeting during the All-Star break and could
make a major change to the goaltending rule.
The proposed change would allow the ball to be blocked anytime after it has
hit the rim, even if it's on the rim or over the cylinder (it's unclear
whether the same rules would apply to offensive goaltending). That would more
closely resembles the international FIBA rules and would be a boon for
shot-blockers like Dwight Howard -- on the other hand, the potential for
controversial calls looms large.
