Rookie shooting guard Matt Carroll, the last player cut by the
Knicks, signed with Portland yesterday. Carroll replayced Derek
Anderson, who went on the injured list with lower back spasms.
Meanwhile, the Knicks continue to look for a capable backup
shooting guard. Anderson, incidently, is on their list as is
Toronto's Morris Peterson.

Portland guard Bonzi Wells, meanwhile, was fined $10,000 by
the Blazers for making an obscene gesture to fans at his home
arena. The next day, teammate Derek Anderson got into an
argument with coach Maurice Cheeks and was subsequently placed
on the injured list, a not-so-subtle punishment for demanding
a trade from general manager John Nask.
