I think you guys are looking to deep into the word "acclaimed." I know you
guys (and me included) hope it is an All-Star calibur player that KP is
referring to. However, it could just be James Jones or another veteran
player. I think all that we can infer with certainty is that the "acclaimed"
player either is a seasoned veteran in the NBA or someone who has had success
in a top level foreign league.

The two "acclaimed" players that the forum wants are Marion or Rashard Lewis.
Unfortunately, there is just virtually no way for us to get Marion. Phoenix
would certainly have to take Raef or/and Miles in any package to get the
salaries to match. I'm sure they're not too interested in either player. We'd
have to throw in some sort of incentive, and the only incentive we have are
our 3 European players that will not be on our roster this year or future
draft picks. Phoenix isn't interested in future picks (as evidenced by them
selling us their first rounders 2 years in a row). Phoenix wants to win now,
and rookies aren't going to be a part of that. There is absolutely NO WAY
Steve Francis will be traded to Phoenix. There is no reason whatsoever for
Phoenix to take Francis in any deal.

With regards to Rashard Lewis, we will not be able to trade Francis in any
package for Rashard. It doesn't make any financial sense for the Sonics. It's
going to be extremely difficult to get a sign-and-trade to work with the
Sonics. There's virtually no way the Sonics would take Raef, and there's
absolutely no way they'll take Darius in a package for Rashard. To get salary
matching of Rashard's contract (which will probably be for 6 years, starting
at around $12-$15 million per year). Our best offer without including a bad
contract would be Webster, Joel and a Travis (who has to agree to a sign and
trade to Seattle). We probably could also throw in a guy like Green or/and a
future 2nd round pick.

Would Seattle be willing to make that trade? I doubt it. Seattle wants young
players and/or draft picks from Portland if we make a trade for Rashard. I
suppose the other possibility would be sending Raef, Webster, Sergio (I'd
hate to see him leave), a 2008 lottery protected first rounder and cash.
That'd be an interesting deal for them. Whoever ends up getting Rashard is
likely going to have to pay a heavy price. There's a lot of demand out there
it seems from several teams for the sharp shooting small forward.

Rashard would be a great fit here in Portland. We desperately need a
perimeter-oriented shooter. His defense isn't spectacular, but very few small
forwards can shoot over the top of him with ease or blow by him with speed.
With Oden and Aldridge in the post, we'll not concern ourselves with wing
players getting a step ahead of our guys.
