In his first year as a starter, LaMarcus Aldridge took the ball and ran with
it (if I may use a football reference in a basketball blog). Aldridge started
76 games in 2007-08 (up from 22 in '06-07) and watched his numbers blossom
from his rookie year in every possible category. The runner up to the runner
up for the league's Most Improved Player award only got better as the season
wound down. He answered the coaches' challenges to step up and play more
inside, scoring at least 20 points in 16 of the Blazers' final 20, to go
along with 10 games of double digit boards (although still an area of needed
improvement).

year see the same numerical result? Here's how Wendell Maxey of
HoopsWorld.com casts his vote:

Right before Aldridge was voted to participate in the Rookie-Sophomore Game
at All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, I talked to GM Kevin Pritchard about what
he originally saw in LaMarcus when he came in for a solo workout right before
the Blazers selected him second overall back in 2006.

Now after Aldridge's second season -  a year that saw him become a constant
presence in Nate McMillan's game plan, play through injury, mature in the
post and assume the offensive accolades alongside Brandon Roy, LaMarcus made
us all see what Pritchard immediately witnessed.
That's why when McMillan and Pritchard talk about Aldridge being a nightly
double-double guy, no one questions it. That's why when McMillan defines
Aldridge's future in terms of becoming a "Garnett", it's taken as gospel.

Forget for a second how Aldridge was second to Roy in scoring, second to
Przybilla in rebounds or led the Blazers in blocked shots (1.24 per game).
You knew it was only a matter of time before Aldridge made everyone forget
about Randolph. Short term memory loss has never been so embraced. And to
know his abilities were recognized nationally is truly a testament to
LaMarcus' maturation in his second season.

先不論在全隊得分上，Aldridge是次於Roy的；以及在籃板上，他是次於Przybilla，
還有他是全隊平均單場阻攻最多的球員(場均1.24個)這些事情。

你知道要讓大家忘卻Randolph離開所帶來的傷害，
只是時間上的問題。畢竟傷痛短期間本來就難忘卻。

要知道他的能力已獲得普遍的肯定，這也是他第二個球季漸趨成熟的証明。


Aldridge finished third behind Orlando's Hedo Turkoglu and Rudy Gay of
Memphis in the league's Most Improved Player award, by improving his rookie
year performance from 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in 22.1 minutes per game to
17.8 points and 7.6 rebounds in 34.9 minutes per game this season.

相較於新人球季的場均9分5籃板與22.1分鐘的上場時間，進步到本季17.8分7.6籃板與
34.9分鐘的上場時間，Aldridge在最佳進步獎的票選中，獲得了第三名的佳績，僅輸給
奧蘭多魔術的Turkoglu與曼菲斯灰熊的Gay。


The numbers are there. So is Aldridge's genuine likability. What then can you
really ask for after LaMarcus'second year?
