Portland Trail Blazers (A-)
No team made more noise on draft night ... and got more done. The Blazers,
who drafted Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy in previous years,
now get Jerryd Bayless of Arizona to team with Roy in the backcourt. They
also get a scoring machine in Ike Diogu, a big forward. The depth gets better
with Memphis’ Joey Dorsey.

又得到Bayless(可和Roy的後場搭配). Diogu.

Portland Trail Blazers: Traded Jarrett Jack and draft rights of Brandon Rush
(No. 13) to Indiana for Ike Diogu and draft rights to Jerryd Bayless (No.
11), traded draft rights of Darrell Arthur (No. 27) and the draft rights to
Joey Dorsey (No. 33) to Houston for draft rights to Nicolas Batum (No. 25)
For the second straight year, the Blazers came away the big winners. Last
year Portland added its franchise center in Greg Oden, and this year it added
a potential franchise lead guard in Bayless. He's explosive, can score from
all over the court, and will complement Brandon Roy beautifully in the
backcourt. Batum is an upside pick who may not play right away, but has Rudy
Gay-like athleticism and slashing ability. A squad of Bayless, Roy, Martell
Webster, Travis Outlaw, Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge, Channing Frye and Oden will
compete for a playoff spot next season and for an NBA championship within
three years.
Batum.
Bayless, Roy, Martell Webster, Travis Outlaw, Batum, Aldridge, Frye

Portland Trail Blazers get: 27th pick.
New Orleans Hornets get: Cash considerations.
Analysis: In what is predicted to be one of the most active drafts in NBA
history it is no surprise that Kevin Pritchard jumped at the opportunity to
add another first round pick for draft. While this move itself is far from
earthshaking, it's a prelude to some significant shakeups in Portland. They
currently have five picks on a team that is loaded with young talent, they
don't need much more. Looking at this from New Orleans perspective, they too
do not feel like their roster needs to get any younger, and wanted to avoid
the salary commitment. This was a good move for both sides.
Portland Trail Blazers get: Ike Diogu and Jerryd Bayless.
Indiana Pacers get: Jarrett Jack, Brandon Rush, and Josh McRoberts.
Analysis: We knew that Kevin Pritchard was going to be making some more
changes and the first one he made tonight was a steal. Not so much that it's
a horrible deal for Indiana, because it's not, but getting Jerryd Bayless out
of this draft was unrealistic a few years ago. He's a perfect fit for them at
the point guard position and will form a very scary and formidable backcourt
duo with Brandon Roy. Ike Diogu gives them yet another talented low post
player and opens things up for a Channing Frye deal. You don't draft Bayless
if you're Indiana right before you officially get T.J. Ford, making him an
obvious trade asset. Brandon Rush plays the same position as their franchise
player, but should they be able to play together they'll give Indiana one of
the better perimeter defenses in the league. McRoberts isn't the same player
Diogu is, but his best days are ahead of him.
Portland Trail Blazers receive: Nicolas Batum
Houston Rockets receive: Donte Green, Joey Dorsey, and 2009 second rounder.
Memphis Grizzlies receive: Darrell Arthur
Analysis: This was originally thought to be a two team trade between Portland
and Houston, but the Memphis Grizzlies were also a part of it. Donte Green is
said to be the player the Rockets really wanted, which is odd considering
they had the opportunity to select him at 27. In the end though they get
Green and Dorsey, along with keeping Batum away from the Spurs - who were
trying to do everything in their power to get Batum. Memphis sneaks in this
deal to get their guy Darrell Arthur, whose head has to still be spinning.
He's not going to end up as close to home as he hoped, but he is going to
have an opportunity to play right away and be a big part of the Grizzlies
future. In the end it all worked out for all three of these teams very well.

PORTLAND
When your owner, Paul Allen, is willing to buy up other team’s draft picks
it should be a good night. A year ago the Blazers were a big draft-night
winner when they chose Greg Oden, a franchise center out of Ohio State, with
the No. 1 pick overall. Then Oden’s knee got hurt and he was lost for the
season.
A year later, the Trail Blazers weren’t expected to make things happen
again, but after a respectable 41-win season and Oden set to return, the push
for the playoffs starts now.
GM Kevin Pritchard pulled off a trade with Indiana that brought in Arizona
guard Jerryd Bayless and bulky forward Ike Diogu in exchange for Kansas
forward Brandon Rush and guard Jarrett Jack.
The Blazers’ decision to buy New Orleans’ pick at No. 27 for $3 million
worked out when Kansas forward Darrell Arthur, a lottery pick level talent,
dropped to them due to rumors about a possible kidney ailment.
With no room on the roster for Arthur, they were able to move him (along with
second-rounder Joey Dorsey) to Houston for highly-regarded French forward
Nicolas Batum, who will stay in Europe this year. Later they traded Omer
Asik, a second-round selection out of Turkey, to the Bulls for three future
second-round picks.
The Blazers got better, got more picks and foreign talent for the future and
had a hand in all sorts of interesting moments of the draft (They traded all
five players they originally drafted). Not a bad night.

Portland Trail Blazers A-
Traded Jarrett Jack, Josh McRoberts and rights to Brandon Rush (13) to
Indiana for Ike Diogu and rights to Jerryd Bayless (11); traded rights to
Darrell Arthur (27) and Joey Dorsey (33) to Houston for rights to Nicolas
Batum (25); traded rights to Omer Asik (36) to Chicago for three future
second-round picks; traded rights to Mike Taylor (55) to L.A. Clippers for
2009 second-round pick
For the second year in a row, they made a dizzying array of moves. When the
dust settled, they had a dynamic scorer in Bayless as well as a boatload of
future picks.

13. Portland – Jerryd Bayless (11), Nicolas Batum (25)
On the years his team doesn’t win the lottery, Kevin Pritchard pulls off
action movie maneuvers to win the draft. How he could walk away with Brandon
Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge in 2006, Greg Oden in 2007 and Jerryd Bayless and
Nicolas Batum in 2008 makes Pritchard very much deserve the KP nickname.
I ranked Bayless (4) very closely behind Mayo and from what I gather the
Blazers did as well. Many of things I’ve written heretofore touch on the
fact that I can’t believe so many clubs passed on Bayless, so I don’t need
to reiterate that, but I really can’t believe so many clubs passed on
Bayless.
Now he’s in a situation where he has no chance of failing; he plays for a
young, stacked team in a backcourt with a shooting guard that handles the
rock extremely well, which maximizes the best part of his game (shooting off
curls and screens).
Batum (15) drops down to the end of the first round because of a mysterious
medical issue and has the highest ceiling out of any pure wing in the draft.
Batum and Rudy Fernandez will be on the Blazers for no reason but the fact
that Paul Allen bought picks. How could you now love being a Blazers’ fan
and because they are in small market Portland and not Los Angeles, Chicago or
New York, how can you really dislike them?
I woke up following the draft thinking about moving up to Portland to cover
this team 55 times a year for the next 10 years because that’s about how
many games they’ll host at the Rose Garden when you factor in the playoffs.
