Jason Quick squeezed a good nugget in the notes section of his article today
regarding Nate McMillan's vision of the starting and reserve units heading
into next season:
If the season started today, McMillan said he would envision a starting unit
of Steve Blake, Brandon Roy, Martell Webster, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg
Oden. The second unit would be Bayless or Sergio Rodriguez, Rudy Fernandez,
Travis Outlaw, Channing Frye and Joel Przybilla.

如果季賽是從今天開始，McMillan說他會用Blake, Roy, Webster, Aldridge, Oden先發
。候補則是Bayless, Sergio, Rudy, Outlaw, Frye, Przybilla。


Which, save for Oden, is the same one through four we saw start last season.
The most debated position in that group is at small forward, and the debate
of whether Webster or Outlaw should start will probably rage on all season.
But McMillan leaves the door open for both:

除了Oden, 其他四個人都是上季的先發。最有爭議的位置是小前鋒, 在於Outlaw和
Webster誰應該是先發。但是McMillan對於這留下了些討論空間。


"But I will leave the starting small forward position open, simply because
Travis started shooting the three better at the end of the year," McMillan
said. "I want he and Martell to fight for that position. But the bottom line
is both are going to play and we are going to need both of them. But I think
Travis, because of the limited touches he would get in the first group, will
be better for the second group."


“但是我會讓這先發位置還有討論空間，因為很簡單，Outlaw上季最後時在三分線表現不
錯”，McMillan說，”我希望他跟Webster能一起競爭這個位置，但重點是這兩個人都要
表現好，而且我們也需要他們兩個。但我認為Travis在先發時會限制住他的彈性, 所以他
比較適合打候補”(limited touches不知道怎麼翻)


With the above proposed starting unit, Outlaw would probably, as indicated,
be the fourth option behind the Big 3. Outlaw needs his touches to score and
be effective on the court. And with the reserves, he became the first option
last season. But with Bayless and Fernandez adept at attacking the basket,
and Frye's ability to pick and pop, Outlaw's scoring doesn't seem to be as
necessary with this group as it was last year. Another point to notice, is
McMillan seems to be preparing for next season as if James Jones will not
return (and at a reported asking price of 5 years/$25M, I don't blame him).
Jones brought timely outside shooting the Blazers will need from the reserve
squad, although Fernandez should contribute in this department. It seems to
me Martell Webster could benefit playing this role with the second unit.

從上面的先發的陣容的觀點看來，Outlaw會比較適合成為除了三巨頭外的第四個得分點。Outlaw需要他的彈性來得分，但從反面來看，他是去年得分的第一選擇，但是現
在有了Bayless和Fernandez能攻擊籃框,，Frye的檔拆投射能力，Outlaw的得分能力似乎
不是像去年一樣那麼必要。另一個重點是，McMillan在為下一季Jones有可能不會在隊上
而做準備。Jones能及時提供拓荒者所需的外線火力，雖然我認為Fernandez也可以在這方
面有貢獻，但對我來說，似乎Webster當替補時能夠在這方面提供些幫助。


Outlaw still needs to improve in a few areas (defense, ball handling,
attacking the rim) in order to be a strong starter, but with his tools he in
no way would be a step down from Martell Webster. With Roy creating his own
(and others) offense, LaMarcus hitting everything between the hoop and 15
feet, and Oden cleaning up the glass, Outlaw would be free to roam and play
catch-and-shoot. The way I see it, as long as these two are both on the team,
they are going to battle for that starting spot. But who starts the game
isn't as important as who's finishing the game. No matter what the starting
lineup, as the season grows the finishing lineup I see is: Roy, Fernandez,
Outlaw, Aldridge and Oden.


Outlaw要成為一個強力的先發的話，還需要在某些地方進步(防守, 處理球,  攻擊籃框
), 但從他的進攻手段來看，他不應該被Webster比下去。當大家在進攻時, Outlaw會有很
大的空檔在外線接球射籃. 所以當這兩個人在球隊上, 我認為他們就會為了先發陣容而競
爭。但是誰是先發並不像誰要來執行最後一擊來得一樣重要。不管怎樣，當球季不斷得進
行中，我認為先發陣容會是Roy, Fernandez, Outlaw, Aldridge和Oden。
