Perhaps one of the reasons Nate McMillan has endorsed Steve Blake as his
starting point guard when training camp opens (it will still be an open
competition throughout camp) is trust.

He says he loves the balance Blake gives the team. He likes his defense. And
he remains the quickest guard on the Blazers in getting from free throw line
to free throw line.
他說他喜歡Blake帶給球隊的一種平衡，他喜歡他的防守，他還是隊上從罰球線到罰球線
最快的球員。
But assistant coach Monty Williams says there is another facet about Blake
that has won over the staff.
但助理教練Monty Williams說還有另一方面是Blake可以獲得教練喜愛的因素。
"He knows exactly what Nate wants before Nate can even say it,'' Williams
said. "And I think that's why we value him - he's the guy we don't have to
worry about.''

Blake said he is able to make that mental connection with McMillan because
the two often have one-on-one talks throughout the season. They talk point
guard philosophies, defensive strategies, personnel ... everything.

"Nate is super intelligent about the game,'' Blake said. "And he is a hard

Blake said he has thought about coaching after his career is over, but after
watching McMillan, he isn't convinced he wants to do it at the professional

"He's always in there watching film,'' Blake said.
But it is clear the two have developed a connection and chemistry.

"He was a point guard as well, so he understands the game,'' Blake said. "And
he has a knack for getting guys to play well ... so I enjoy him a lot.''

Williams, who went to one of Blake's UFC workouts this summer, said he is
impressed with Blake's attention to detail.

"He's becoming a pro - a pro's pro,'' Williams said. "I always prided myself
in that my head coaches and my boss never had to worry about me. He's that.
We never have to worry about him.

"And I think he hasn't gotten enough credit for being a starting point guard
in this league, because we have so many guys who can put up numbers. But it
take a lot for a guy like him to find of fit in and be the glue sometimes.
But in my mind, he is turning into a pro.''
