Broken records were in heavy rotation Monday at the Rose Garden for the
Portland Trail Blazers annual Media Day. Ask a handful of players – Brandon
Roy, Greg Oden, Travis Outlaw, Jerryd Bayless - who impressed the most during
offseason scrimmages and they all answer the same: Martell Webster.

Now all Webster has to do is carry that praise over into the regular season.

"Last year the buzz was I was consistently inconsistent," said Webster
sporting a freshly shaved head and new outlook.
"I'm trying to turn that around."

That turnaround for the fourth year small forward started early this
offseason and has been running strong ever since. His conditioning regiment
has been intense to say the least. He's been diligently working with a
personal trainer - whom Martell refers to as "Coach Dave" - on building his
core and says he feels "a lot stronger" despite slimming down. Webster
weighed upwards of 235 pounds last year and says now he's at 229 pounds. Yet
Webster is preparing himself in another way too - mentally.
這扭轉的氣勢在這位球齡邁入第四年小前鋒的休季期間早就開始了，而且比過去都強。退

"I need to change my mental aspect and approach it (the season) with a
different mental state," Webster explained.

"I'll be a lot more consistent this year - mentally consistent, consistent
from a basketball standpoint. I'm just going to go out there and do what I've
been doing."

While Webster, 22, admits he'll maintain his offseason "routine" this season
to help keep him consistent, his teammates have easily noticed his meticulous
approach to the season ahead.

"Every time I've seen him he's all business. I think he has his mind set a
lot more on this season," Blazers rookie center Greg Oden told HOOPSWORLD.

"Maybe a lot of people don't talk about him, but we know he's a big part of
this team and we need him. Martell is pound for pound the strongest player on
the team. He worked on his game a lot with his jump shot and definitely his

think he is ready for it and I'm excited about it."

The only question now – besides can Webster be consistent this year on both
ends of the court – is will he start or come off the bench? It's the burning
question heading into Blazers training camp which opens Tuesday: Webster or
Travis Outlaw at small forward?
現在唯一的問題是，除了Webster今年還會不會維持兩邊底線跑動的速度外，就是他會打
先發還是替補？這個在拓荒者的訓練營是火熱的問題，是Webster還是Outlaw？
"We'll see," Webster said very business-like.

"I can come off the bench and be totally fine with that. I want to help the
team. But I feel good coming off the bench or starting, but you go out there
and prepare yourself to become a starter. If it happens it happens. I won't
be mad with the result."
"我完全可以接受打替補，我想幫助球隊。我覺得打替補跟先發都很好，但你必須要隨時
準備好你的狀態來打先發。如果我真的打先發了，我也不會因為這個結果而高興不已。"
As for Outlaw, he was a bit more jovial with his response.
對於Outlaw，他用比較幽默的口氣來回答。
"He (Webster) knows I'm going to go at him. Just like he wants the spot, I
want the spot. But it's all good in competition. I'm not going to kill him on
a fastbreak. I may just trip him up," Outlaw said flashing a smile.
"Webster知道我要來搶他的位置了，就像他想要那個位置一樣，我也很想要。但這是個好
的競爭，我不會在他快攻的時候宰了他，我或許只會絆倒他而已"，Outlaw露出一絲微笑

"We're both just trying to make each other better. I'm willing to do what is

The hubbub could hush in a hurry.
這些議論紛紛的聲音很快得就會平息了。
Four of the five starting spots have already been settled – with Steve
Blake, Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden - and word is head coach
Nate McMillan already envisions Webster as the fifth starter. It would be a
similar set-up to last year where Webster started 70 games for Portland, and
Outlaw claimed the "sixth-man" role out of camp and owned it for the season.
And with James Jones' deep threat departed to Miami this offseason, Webster's
perimeter abilities only become that much more valuable.
四個先發位置已經確定了，Steve Blake, Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge 和 Greg
Oden，最後一個McMillan曾說要讓Webster擔任第五號先發，很像去年的陣容，Webster先
發了70場，而Outlaw扮演第六人腳色。當James Jones離開後，Webster的外線能力祇會變
