Here's a translation of the second entry of a two part story that chronicles
Nicolas Batum's trip to All Star Weekend in Phoenix. A tip of the hat goes to
our friends across the pond at BasketSession.com who continue to post the
entries as Nicolas writes them.
After {watching the some of the post practice festivities outlined in
part 1} we ate at Amare Stoudamire's restaurant, which was next to the gym. A
nice little place.
I also spent time with a youth day camp near where the Dunk Contest would
take place. Each Adidas player was on hand to help teach the kids exercises,
different kinds of shots, and then we also got to play with them for a bit
before we hung around and signed autographs.
After all of that had wrapped up, I was at Boris Diaw's house where he
had organized a poker tournament. I didn't play because it started at 1 p.m.
and finished by 5 p.m. I didn't get there until 3:30 p.m. I'm not sure who
won, but there wasn't just basketball players there. In any case, TJ Parker
(Tony Parker's little brother) went really far in the tournament. The prizes
were nice : two paintings that were done by an artist, one of Tony Parker,
and one of Boris Diaw, as well as the shoes Tony would be wearing in the All
Star Game were included with the cash prizes.
Saturday night, I again went to the gym for the games. Well, they were
kind of games, a little boring, featuring old guys like Bill Laimbeer. In
fact, i didn't really watch them, instead i went to grab something to eat,
where one of my dreams came true! When you're on the bench all the time and
you see all these people coming down into the stands with these big plates of
food, that makes you want it so bad. Since the beginning of the year, I had
always wanted to do that. So, I went up myself and grabbed a plate of food
that was out of control : Nachos with cheese, chicken tenders and tons of
other stuff.
And the thing that was killer to see on Saturday night, is that when you
go to grab something or walk around, you cross paths with George Gervin,
Magic... And even better, I crossed paths with Scottie! Finally! I was
thrilled. But it was impossible to go and see him. I didn't dare try. there
were too many people between us.
However, I did get a chance to talk with another NBA veteran, and we
talked for quite awhile: Gheorghe Muresan. We were in a suite that was
reserved only for international players. We talked about the Pro A {French
League}, we talked about the Pau-Orthez and we talked some more. He said he
was sad for Pau {who are not playing well right now}. He had his son who was
4'2" at only two years of age!... Ok, I'm exaggerating ... He was like 10
years old, but is already really big for his age
However, I did watch some of the other events. There was a point guard
contest where Tony Parker choked a bit :) However, during the three point
contest, I made a little bet with Antoine Le Roy {of Canal+, he covered the
contest for l'emission Interieur Sport - a French television program} : I put
my money on Danny Granger and he put his on Kapono. However, during the dunk
contest, I made a bet with George Eddy {French commentator) and I put my
money on Nate Robinson. George put his on JR Smith.
The Dunk Contest was heated. That dunk over Howard... Robinson was
impressive. In the contest as well was my teammate, Rudy Fernandez. He wasn't
ridiculous, but he did some cool stuff all the same. The thing that was sad
was that second dunk, the one he had worked on. In practice, he had passed it
to himself off of the backboard before finishing with the mini windmill
behind his head. I just can't understand why he brought Gasol into it if he
had practiced it himself beforehand.
I know he had another idea as well, where what he wanted to do was put a
Dwight Howard mask on Pau Gasol. he didn't get a chance to do it, but it
could have been huge.
The next day, I slept in. I did some video spots for adidasTV, those will
be on their site. After that, I went to the All Star Game. It wasn't bad, but
the Rookie Game was better. That is, aside from Shaq dancing at the beginning
which was unreal. Absolutely huge. There was Brittney Spears in attendance,
who is much better in person :) but all in all I didn't think the game was
better than the one played by the rookies. After that i went to have
something to eat and had a mellow evening because the weekend had been pretty
intense and I had to leave Monday morning. I had to go back to the world of
regular season play. All-Star Weekend, it really has it's own vibe. It was
exactly what our team needed. With 53 games played, it was good
to cut the festivities a bit short. Personally, I really needed this break.

Batum好可愛喔!
