First game, what did you think?
I saw some good stuff. I thought we did a good job of running our offense and
defensively, trying to control this team. This will probably be the last game
we win with 26 turnovers.
Talk about your defense in the first half:
It's still a work in progress with our guys, but that's a commitment. Getting
involved in the game on the defensive end, not the offensive end. Offensive
players, they want to see the ball get in the basket before they get into the
game. We want to change that thought process this year and get into the game
on the defensive end. I though our guys did that.
What did you think of Travis Outlaw's play?
I thought it was good. I wanted to get him in at that 4 position and he had
his shot going tonight. Defensively I thought he did some good things.
Working hard on the defensive end of the floor, playing the 3 and the 4.
We'll be able to use him like that. We'll be able to score as long as we play
defense and I thought that [second] group came in and forced some misses and
were able to get some easy baskets.
How about Outlaw and Martell Webster filling in for Nic Batum?
We have a lot of guys that we'll rotate. Tonight I didn't know exactly how
that rotation would go and a couple of times we had Blake and Miller and
Brandon on the floor, that wasn't a bad lineup. Miller and Rudy and Travis
and Martell on the floor was a pretty good lineup. We just want to go in and
out work teams. Keep the pressure on for 48 minutes and try and wear teams
down.
What did you think of Greg Oden's game?
He got into foul trouble. Those guys are small but they're good defenders and
they're smart defenders. Hayes and Scola and Landry, those guys do a nice
job. They baited our bigs, out bigs got rushed at times and turned the ball
over. We'll get some opportunity to look at some film tomorrow and look at
how that team played us. A lot of our turnovers came from our bigs and going
against those matchups, but they'll learn.
What did you think of the second unit?
I thought that tempo was exactly what I was hoping for with that group. Rudy
and Travis and Joel and I got Martell back in the lineup with that group.
They forced some turnovers, some quick shots, got some steals and was able to
turn those into points. [The second quarter] was a 31-point quarter and it
started with that group.
