Notebook: Blazers coach McMillan wants Miller to be more aggressive

PORTLAND — Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan said he wants point
guard Andre Miller to be more aggressive.


While McMillan acknowledged that Miller is still finding his rhythm as the
leader of Portland’s second unit, the Blazers coach stated that he needs
Miller to attack the paint more often and find open shooters.

Miller, who was acquired by Portland as an offseason free agent, struggled
through the Blazers first four games of the season. He was shooting 31.2
percent (10 of 32) from the field and 14.2 percent (1 of 7) from behind the
3-point line prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks at the
Rose Garden.

Miller’s shot should begin to fall as the season unfolds — he is known for
being a very reliable player who works himself into shape. But in the mean
time, McMillan said that he wants the 10-year NBA veteran to create offense
by pushing the tempo, engaging in pick-and-roll sets and posting defenders up.

"I want him very involved," McMillan said. "To the point where I want him
pushing and handling the ball probably 90 percent of the time he’s in."

Miller has led a Blazers second unit that features Rudy Fernandez, Travis
Outlaw and Joel Przybilla. McMillan said that, ideally, he sees the group as
a fast-paced combination that will push the ball and stretch the floor.

However, Miller’s early cold spell has hurt the unit’s ability to do
either. The Portland point guard has only scored in double figures once — 15
points in an Oct. 31 loss to Houston — and was held to four points and just
one field goal in the Blazers’ 83-74 victory over Oklahoma City on Sunday.

McMillan said he is comfortable with Miller in the role of a scorer or a
facilitator. Either way, McMillan simply wants Miller to be more aggressive.

"I want attacking," McMillan said. "If that means getting to the basket,
yeah. If the defense collapses, we have shooters around with that group."

Contusion city
Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge was still a game-time decision a little
more than an hour before Tuesday’s game, according to McMillan.

Aldridge is dealing with a bone contusion on his right knee, which forced him
to leave last Sunday’s game against Oklahoma City after playing just 12
minutes.

Aldridge said Tuesday morning he has treated the contusion with ice and rest,
and that injury has shown improvement.

He also found a little humor in his recent run of bruises.

"When you’re playing hard, you’re going to run into guys," Aldridge said. "I
’m not the thickest guy in the world, so my bones are more exposed or
whatever. I run into guys’ knees and elbows and stuff all the time."

Batum back
Portland forward Nicolas Batum attended a Tuesday morning practice at the team
’s workout facility in Tualatin, Ore.

He underwent successful surgery last Friday to repair a torn labrum in his
right shoulder.
Batum wore a sling Tuesday, and said the timeframe for his return is still
five months. He added, though, that he should be out of the sling in three
weeks.

"I hope this is the one time in my career," Batum said.

另外如果miller是第二陣容隊長，那他在率領第二陣容衝鋒陷陣的時候
Blake為什麼也在上面 囧rz
而外國鄉民矛頭也都指向Miller

I hope someone from the Blazers gets this message: I don't love this Blazer
team. I loved the Blazers last year, now I just don't feel it. Andre Miller
seems to have ruined the chemistry and I really don't like the way he plays
with our team. I'm not as excited about the Blazers as I used to be, what
happened? Seems like getting Miller ruined the team.



P.S.Batum手術成功，"五個月"後就可以上場了。
