I will never forget the throng of Trail Blazers fans who assembled last
season on final night of the regular season on the concourse at the Rose
Garden Arena, watching San Antonio and Dallas play a close game on television.
The Blazers game was tipping off inside the arena. The fans weren't moving,
because they understood what was happening in Texas was more important.

Which brings us to the 2009-2010 Blazers playoff run, and the hope here that
if Portland does qualify, it ends up the No. 8 seed in the West and draws the

I want to see the Blazers-Lakers. You want to see it. The Blazers probably
want the Lakers, too. And the other matchups are so unpalatable that it's
probably worth rooting against them now.

coach Phil Jackson leaning against the wall outside the visiting locker room,
brow furrowed, talking in a defeated tone about what went wrong.

There's going to be a lot of discussion in the coming month about the teams
chasing Portland for the eighth seed in the conference.

New Orleans has too many injuries, including Chris Paul, to catch the
Blazers. Houston, post-Tracy McGrady trade, is fading. But Memphis has proven
it can play with anyone on a given night, and has a schedule that is Eastern
Conference-flavored with opponents it can handle.

Coach Nate McMillan was a grinder as a player. He found a way. And we're
watching him perform the same act while leading the Blazers toward the
playoffs.

the NBA Finals for a lot of deserving people for a few nights.
