Pre-draft Team Needs/Steve Alexander Here's a look at all 30 teams, their first-round draft picks, free agents and potential team needs. A (P) is a player option, and a (T) is a team option, which determines which side gets to say whether a player stays or goes. And to see the latest (version 4) mock draft, posted June 7, click here. Atlanta Hawks – Pick 24 Restricted Free Agents: None Unrestricted Free Agents: Maurice Evans (P), Othello Hunter, Joe Johnson, Randolph Morris, Joe Smith, Mario West, Marvin Williams Needs: What don't the Hawks need? They need a coach, a true center, a new point guard and possibly a new superstar to replace free agent Joe Johnson. Point guards and centers should be the focus of their draft, but it's also likely they'll need a shooting guard who can score a ton of points if/when JJ leaves. But with the 24th pick in the draft, it's hard to imagine the Hawks fixing any of their problems. Boston Celtics – Pick 19 Restricted Free Agents: None Unrestricted Free Agents: Ray Allen, Tony Allen, Marquis Daniels, Lester Hudson, Marcus Landry, Paul Pierce (P), Nate Robinson, Brian Scalabrine, Shelden Williams Needs: Ray Allen could be on his way out, although that Game 2 Finals performance could have earned him an extension, despite his age. If Allen goes, the Celtics will likely be targeting a shooter. They're covered in most other areas, although Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are not getting any younger. The Celtics focus will be on youth, so taking the best player available makes sense – unless it's a point guard. Rajon Rondo is locked and loaded there indefinitely. Charlotte Bobcats – Pick - None Restricted Free Agents: Tyrus Thomas Unrestricted Free Agents: Tyson Chandler (P), Raymond Felton, Stephen Graham, Nazr Mohammed (P), Theo Ratliff Needs: The Bobcats need players at most positions, and possibly a coach. Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace are locked and loaded on the wings, but everything else is fair game. However, it's a moot point since they don't have a first-round pick. Chicago Bulls - Pick 17 Restricted Free Agents: None Unrestricted Free Agents: Devin Brown, Aaron Gray, Lindsey Hunter, Jerome James, Acie Law, Brad Miller, Jannero Pargo, Ronald Murray, Anthony Roberson, Hakim Warrick Needs: Tom Thibodeau is the new coach in Chicago, and Derrick Rose (PG) and Joakim Noah (C) are locked and loaded for the future. Luol Deng's becoming an injury problem and Kirk Hinrich's name is constantly popping up in trade rumors. They could also use a scoring power forward to help Hakim Warrick, if they re-sign him. A forward at No. 17 makes the most sense, and there are a ton of rumors out there about free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh landing in Chicago. Cleveland Cavaliers – Pick - None Restricted Free Agents: Jawad Williams Unrestricted Free Agents: LeBron James (P), Tarence Kinsey, Shaquille O'Neal, Leon Powe (T), Sebastian Telfair (T) Needs: The Cavs need a coach, possibly a new superstar to replace LeBron, and are talking about trading PG Mo Williams and combo guard Delonte West. And the worst part is they don't even have a first-round pick. They literally need a player at every position, but they're going to have to acquire them via trade or free agency, since they don't have a first-round pick. Dallas Mavericks – Pick - None Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents J.J. Barea (T), Greg Buckner, Brendan Haywood, Dirk Nowitzki (P), Tim Thomas Needs: If Dirk Nowitzki is gone, and that's a real possibility, they'll need a scoring big man. They also need a center, but are pretty set in the backcourt and with Caron Butler and Shawn Marion at small forward. Of course, they don't have a first-round pick, so it doesn't really matter. Denver Nuggets – Pick - None Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Malik Allen, Anthony Carter, Joey Graham, Kenyon Martin (P), Johan Petro Needs: The only big name they may lose is Kenyon Martin, so they could certainly use a power forward, although Chris Andersen is still around. Chauncey Billups (PG), J.R. Smith (SG), Carmelo Anthony (SF) and Nene (C) are good to go, so if the Nuggets were to acquire a first-rounder, they'd likely use it on a big man. Detroit Pistons – Pick 7 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Chucky Atkins, Kwame Brown, Fabricio Oberto, Will Bynum, Walter Sharpe, Rodney Stuckey (T), Ben Wallace Needs: The Pistons need help at every position, as they could lose Bynum, Stuckey and Wallace, while Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince are on the trading block. Pick a position, and the Pistons need help there, outside of shooting guard, where they have Ben Gordon. Then again, he was useless this season, despite the big money. Our guess is they'll be looking at a small forward with the No. 7 pick. Golden State Warriors – Pick 6 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Raja Bell, Speedy Claxton, Devean George, Chris Hunter, Cartier Martin, Vladimir Radmanovic (P), Anthony Tolliver, C.J. Watson Needs: The Warriors' big men were an injury-riddled disaster last year and it feels like Don Nelson will target a big man. Especially since Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry have the backcourt locked down, and they have an abundance of swingmen. DeMarcus Cousins and Cole Aldrich are real possibilities at No. 6. Houston Rockets – Pick 14 Restricted Free Agents Hilton Armstrong, Kyle Lowry Unrestricted Free Agents Brian Cook, Chuck Hayes (T), Yao Ming (P), Luis Scola Needs: Yao Ming should be back, but his health is still in question, and probably always will be. The Rockets could really use a center, as they're fairly loaded at guard and forward. However, the quality won't be there with the No. 14 pick, so look for them to take the best player available. Indiana Pacers – Pick 10 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Travis Diener, T.J. Ford (P), Luther Head, Josh McRoberts (T), Earl Watson Needs: With Ford and Watson gone, the Pacers appear ready to lean heavily on young A.J. Price at point guard. They also have needs for a shooter and power forward, meaning hometown hero Gordon Hayward could actually fill a need. But it's also very possible they'll look at a point guard with the No. 10 pick, as the jury is still out on just how good Price will be. L.A. Clippers - Pick 8 Restricted Free Agents Mardy Collins Unrestricted Free Agents Steve Blake, Bobby Brown, Rasual Butler, Drew Gooden, Travis Outlaw, Kareem Rush, Brian Skinner, Craig Smith Needs: The Clippers seem to be fairly set at most positions, but could really use a real starting small forward (instead of pretend ones like Rasual Butler and Travis Outlaw). The Clips will be big players in free agency and LeBron could end up filling the void in L.A., but you can probably look for them to draft the best player available at No. 8. A power forward probably makes sense, given the fact that we still haven't seen Blake Griffin play in an NBA game, while they'll also need a backup point guard for Baron Davis. L.A. Lakers – Pick - None Restricted Free Agents Adam Morrison, Jordan Farmar Unrestricted Free Agents Shannon Brown (P), Derek Fisher, D.J. Mbenga, Josh Powell Needs: The Lakers have no first-round pick and could use another point guard. They'll be big players in the free agent market, simply because players will want to go to L.A. and play with Kobe. Derek Fisher is probably good as gone, and Jordan Farmar doesn't appear to be capable of running the offense. Therefore, PG is their main issue. Memphis Grizzlies – Picks 12, 25, 28 Restricted Free Agents Ronnie Brewer, Rudy Gay Unrestricted Free Agents Steven Hunter, Jamaal Tinsley, Marcus Williams Needs: It remains to be seen if they'll re-sign SF Gay, and PF Zach Randolph's summer trouble with the law (again) leaves his status a bit up in the air. They've got three first-round picks coming their way, and we'd guess that two will be used on power forwards, and one will be used for a small forward. They're set in the backcourt with Mike Conley and O.J. Mayo, and at center with Marc Gasol and Hasheem Thabeet, so look for the Grizz to focus on forwards. Miami Heat – Pick 18 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Joel Anthony, Carlos Arroyo, Mario Chalmers (T), Yakhouba Diawara, Udonis Haslem, Jermaine O'Neal, Jamaal Magloire, Quentin Richardson, Dwyane Wade (P), Dorell Wright Needs: It sounds like Dwyane Wade will be back in Miami, if he can get another big name to join him, which is doable. It remains to be seen if Michael Beasley will be back, and we're guessing he's closer to going (in a trade) than staying. Point guard is still a major concern for the Heat, while small forward also could be. We suspect they'll go point guard in the draft, and try to fill the hole potentially left by Beasley via free agency. That said, they could also use some help at center, as Jermaine O'Neal is going to struggle with leg injuries in what's left of his career. Milwaukee Bucks – Pick 15 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Bruce Bowen (retired), Primoz Brezec, Royal Ivey, Michael Redd (P), Luke Ridnour, Jerry Stackhouse, Kurt Thomas, Roko Ukic Needs: None of the Bucks big guns are free agents, unless you count Michael Redd, who they'd probably prefer to lose. The only positions that are locked in are point guard (Brandon Jennings) and center (Andrew Bogut), so it would make sense for the Bucks to take the best player available. Scott Skiles has proven he can get the most out of players with marginal talent, and we're guessing they'll take a player like PF Hassan Whiteside. Minnesota Timberwolves – Picks 4, 16, 23 Restricted Free Agents Nathan Jawai Unrestricted Free Agents Chucky Atkins, Mark Blount, Antonio Daniels, Darko Milicic, Sasha Pavlovic, Oleksiy Pecherov, Alando Tucker, Damien Wilkins Needs: The Wolves have three first-round picks and aren't set to lose any major pieces. Their biggest need is small forward and shooting guard, and that's where we'd expect them to use their picks. Then again, David Kahn is as unpredictable as they come, so it's anyone's guess as to what they do on draft day. They took three point guards last year, and are talking about trading Kevin Love, so this decision is wide open. New Jersey Nets – Picks 3, 27 Restricted Free Agents Josh Boone Unrestricted Free Agents Tony Battie, Chris Douglas-Roberts (T), Trenton Hassell, Jarvis Hayes, Chris Quinn, Bobby Simmons Needs: The Nets aren't losing anyone with real value and have Terrence Williams ready to take over at small forward. They're also set at point guard and center, but aren't sold on Courtney Lee at SG, and Yi Jianlian at PF. And for that reason, we see them targeting those two positions in the draft. It does look like they're going to end up with either SG Evan Turner or PF Derrick Favors with the No. 3 pick, and there's a decent chance LeBron will end up in Jersey. New Orleans Hornets – Pick 11 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Ike Diogu, Aaron Gray, Sean Marks, Darius Songaila (P) Needs: They've got a new coach in Monty Williams and one of the best point guards alive in Chris Paul, while David West is an excellent power forward and Emeka Okafor is a serviceable center. They still need a shooter at both shooting guard and small forward with Peja Stojakovic's age and injury history, so we expect the No. 11 pick to be spent on one of those positions. New York Knicks – Pick - None Restricted Free Agents Sergio Rodriguez Unrestricted Free Agents Eddy Curry (P), Chris Duhon, J.R. Giddens, Eddie House, Tracy McGrady, David Lee, Cuttino Mobley (retired), Toney Douglas Needs: The Knicks will be a huge player in free agency but don't have any first-round draft picks. They've got money and like the futures of Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, but everyone else is on the block. The Knicks are going to land a couple big names this summer, but it's impossible to predict which ones they will be. Oklahoma City Thunder – Picks 21, 26 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Ryan Bowen, Matt Harpring (retired), Nenad Krstic (P), Kevin Ollie, Etan Thomas Needs: The Thunder is one of the league's true up-and-coming teams and only has holes at center and shooting guard. They're not going to get a good center with their late picks, so don't be surprised to see them take a shooting guard and possibly a true power forward with them. Jeff Green is playing PF for them currently, but would also be a good fit at small forward. They look like another "best player available" team. Orlando Magic – Pick 29 Restricted Free Agents J.J. Redick Unrestricted Free Agents Adonal Foyle, Anthony Johnson, Jason Williams Needs: The Magic will need a backup point guard if Jason Williams signs elsewhere, and will also be looking at a PF with upside. They have several PFs already, but don't seem to be thrilled with Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson. Philadelphia 76ers – Pick 2 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Francisco Elson, Allen Iverson, Rodney Carney Needs: Evan Turner makes perfect sense here, as he could immediately step in the starting shooting guard role, shifting Andre Iguodala permanently over to small forward, and putting Willie Green on the bench. With Elton Brand looking older than ever, they are also taking a look at PF Derrick Favors, but Turner still seems to make the most sense to us. Phoenix Suns - Pick - None Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Louis Amundson, Grant Hill (P), Channing Frye (P), Amare Stoudemire (P) Needs: Amare Stoudemire could be playing elsewhere next season, while it remains to be seen if Channing Frye opts in or out. If Amare goes, their focus will be on a big man, but they don't have a first-round pick. Portland Trail Blazers – Pick 22 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Marcus Camby, Juwan Howard, Joel Przybilla (P) Needs: Joel Przybilla is opting in, giving the Blazers three oft-injured centers. You can rule out a C in the draft, while LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy and Andre Miller have the PF, SG and PG positions covered. That means they should be targeting a SF with the No. 22 pick. It's also worth noting that GM Kevin Pritchard could be out of a job, with Jerry West's name floating around as a replacement. Sacramento Kings – Pick 5 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Jon Brockman, Larry Hughes, Carl Landry (T), Sean May, Dominic McGuire, Kenny Thomas, Ime Udoka Needs: The Kings may opt to get a backup center to help out Spencer Hawes, but probably have a more pressing need at small forward and shooting guard. We know they don't need a power forward (Landry) or combo guard (Tyreke Evans/Beno Udrih), so a wing or center makes sense. And DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe or Al-Farouq Aminu are all being targeted by the Kings. They may just take whoever they feel is the best player available. San Antonio Spurs – Pick 20 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Keith Bogans, Matt Bonner, Michael Finley, Marcus Haislip, Roger Mason, Ian Mahinmi Needs: The Spurs are old and could really use help at every position. Therefore, they'll target the best player available, whether it be a big man or a wing player. Manu Ginobili recently signed a three-year extension, taking him off the market. The Spurs also have a capable second power forward in DeJuan Blair to play behind Tim Duncan, but clearly need a center, and could use another small forward, given Richard Jefferson's disappointing season. Toronto Raptors – Pick 13 Restricted Free Agents Roko Ukic (P) Unrestricted Free Agents Chris Bosh (P), Quincy Douby, Amir Johnson, Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Rasho Nesterovic, Patrick O'Bryant Needs: Chris Bosh sounds good as gone, meaning they'll be looking for the best power forward available at No. 13. They could choose to play Andrea Bargnani there, so a center is also a possibility. Additionally, Jose Calderon is not the point guard we thought he was, so they could also look there as well. We've got them taking big man Daniel Orton, but he may not contribute much in the near future. Utah Jazz – Pick 9 Restricted Free Agents None Unrestricted Free Agents Carlos Boozer, Kyrylo Fesenko, Sundiata Gaines, Kyle Korver, Wesley Matthews Needs: Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver and Wesley Matthews could all be gone, but they've got Paul Millsap ready to step in at PF if Boozer leaves. That means they could really use a shooter to replace Korver, and guys like Gordon Hayward, Ed Davis and Luke Babbitt are all possibilities at No. 9. Washington Wizards – Pick 1, 30 Restricted Free Agents Randy Foye Unrestricted Free Agents Earl Boykins, Javaris Crittenton, Mike James, Mike Miller, Fabricio Oberto, James Singleton Needs: No. 1 appears to be a no-brainer, as in Kentucky's John Wall, who would play point guard, sliding Gilbert Arenas over to the 2-guard spot. But after losing Brendan Haywood, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler to trades earlier this season, the remaining spots are all open. Therefore, they will probably be looking for a wing with the 30th pick.
