Well everyone, I'm leaving for the deep rain forest in the Amazon in 4 days.
This is my first field season for the research in the Ecuadorian and Peruvian
Amazon. I will return there once or twice a year later on.
The fieldwork will be a lot harder than any fieldwork I've done before> First
of all, I'm NOT living in a research station, I'm living in the deep jungle
with the indigenous communities for 2 months. There's no electricity, no hot water,
no telecommunications, and there is malaria, yellow fever, etc. Drinking water
has to be filtered twice, we bath in the river, sleep in elevated hammocks (not
tent on the ground, because of bugs, snakes and bats), and food is very scarce.
It takes 3 days by boat or foot to my site, so we are taking a small aircraft.
Of course, if it doesn't crash.....
I'll return to the civilization every 3 weeks or so for hot showers, good food,
and internet. I'll upload my photos from the Amazon to share with you then.
