又可稱為supersecondary structure
也就是說是由一些2級結構組合而成的小單元
例如：alpha-alpha corner及beta-alpha-beta loop
而motif也可作為蛋白質分類上的依據
domain
通常有較多(數百)的胺基酸組成穩定球狀的構造
而結構上domain間常相互分離(從立體結構很容易觀察出)
且每個常domain具有獨立的功能
