Blue Jays promote Chacin, League;
Catalanotto goes on 60-day DL;
Lopez designated for assignment
TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Blue Jays purchased the contracts of left-hander
Gustavo Chacin and right-hander Brandon League from Double-A New Hampshire on
Sunday.
To make room on the roster, the Blue Jays transferred outfielder Frank
Catalanotto from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list and designated
right-hander Aquilino Lopez for assignment.
Chacin, a 23-year-old native of Venezuela, is scheduled to make his major
league debut in a start against the New York Yankees on Monday night.
He went 19-2 record in 28 starts with New Hampshire and Triple-A Syracuse.
League went 6-4 with two saves in 41 regular season games with New Hampshire.
Catalanotto had season-ending groin surgery earlier this month, but is
expected to be ready by spring training.
Lopez earned 14 saves in his rookie season with the Blue Jays last year,
but struggled this year. He went 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA with Toronto, and
was 1-6 with five saves and a 7.17 ERA for Syracuse.
