Overbay gives Jays power surge                                                  
First baseman's blast in the sixth proves to be game-winner

TORONTO -- Home runs can do wonders for an offense. The Blue Jays, lacking in
the power department this season, received a well-timed blast by first baseman
Lyle Overbay on Thursday night, helping Toronto eke out a 4-3 win over the
Angels at Rogers Centre.

Overbay's solo shot in the sixth inning snapped a 3-3 tie, sending the Jays
(24-25) on their way to the victory, avoiding a sweep at the hands of Los
Angeles. The homer also aided a decent effort from Toronto's A.J. Burnett, who  
struck out six over six innings for his second win in a row.                    

After being handcuffed by Burnett (5-4) for the first four inning, the Angels   
(28-21) tagged the right-hander for three runs between the fifth and sixth.     
Burnett yielded consecutive doubles with two outs in the fifth to help Los
Angeles piece together a two-run outburst, and he gave up a two-out RBI single
to Angels catcher Jeff Mathis an inning later to knot the score at 3.

Angels right-hander Ervin Santana (6-2) -- the victim behind Overbay's homer --
picked up his second straight loss after surrendering four runs on nine hits
over six-plus innings. Toronto's Joe Inglett, who filled in as the designated   
hitter for Matt Stairs (out with a stiff neck), chipped in a run-scoring triple 
in the third inning, while Brad Wilkerson and Rod Barajas added RBIs in the win.

Following Burnett's exit, Toronto's late-inning trio of left-handers Jesse
Carlson, Scott Downs and B.J. Ryan held the Angels in check for the final three
frames. Carlson struck out the side in the seventh, Downs faced the minimum in  
the eighth and Ryan finished off Los Angeles in the ninth for his 10th save in  
as many chances.
