The Blue Jays on Saturday signed left-hander Ricky Romero to a five-year,
$30.1 million contract extension for the 2011-15 seasons with a club option
for the 2016 season.
Romero is 9-7 with a 3.53 ERA this season and has tossed three complete
games. In his short career, Romero is 22-16 with a 3.94 ERA and 273
strikeouts in 52 career starts, proving himself to be one of the
organization's top young arms.
The Blue Jays selected Romero No. 6 overall in the 2005 Draft. The East Los
Angeles, Calif., native made his debut at the beginning of the 2009 season,
en route to a strong rookie campaign.
