In other news, Gorillaz friends and collaborators Damon Albarn and
Jamie Hewlett have decided to apparently jump off of Murdoc Niccals' coat tails
and create their own new project. Monkey: Journey to the West is a ground-
breaking new circus opera based on the Chinese legend set to a musical score
by Albarn and a visual setting designed by Hewlett. The show will receive its
world premiere at the inaugural Manchester International Festival in June 2007.
Written and directed by Chinese theatre director Chen Shi-Zheng, the produc-
tion is based on the story of the Monkey King, an epic journey of enlightenment
retold through circus, martial arts and music, featuring Shaolin Monks and
