COXON BATTLES TO SAVE LONDON MARKET

Former BLUR guitarist GRAHAM COXON is following in the footsteps of his
ex-bandmate DAVE ROWNTREE by taking on his local council. Coxon has launched
a campaign against a multi-million pound plans to redevelop London's Stables
Market, insisting it is destined to become "mediocre, modernist piece of crap."
He says, "This is a pathetic attempt at modernisation, What's going to be in
it? More Starbucks coffee houses and Carphone Warehouses? "It should be full
of tailors, shoemakers, cheesemakers and independent shops, but of course they
are not going to do that." Drummer Rowntree lost his election attempt to be-
come a local councillor for the Labour party in London's Westminster council
in May (07).
