勇士擁有年輕的全星星捕手McCann，以及老朋友Lopez 的回歸。
當上次Lopez 穿著勇士的制服時，他是個爆發力十足的明星捕手，等待著
一份大合約，而那時McCann還是個19歲的小夥子，第二年打職業比賽。
不消多說，從Lopez 離開之後事情有了改變。不過還好McCann迅速頂上大
聯盟的位子，讓勇士隊依然可以擁有一個全星星的捕手。
Lopez 形容McCann擁有天份以及所需的技能，他很高興能指導McCann。事
實上，他希望他能證明他有能耐成為球隊的二號捕手。他以Non roster的
身分被邀請參加春訓。跟他競爭的人還有Brayan Pena，Corky Miller 以
及Clint Sammons。
當Lopez 過去三年感覺像是一場夢靨的同時，McCann則是完全的美夢成真
。在亞特蘭大市郊長大，在2005年成功頂上捕手的位子，現在已經是亞特
蘭大地區的英雄。
老史說McCann是個不可思議的打者，而且他在本壘板後的知識完全超越了
他的年紀所該擁有的。McCann就算在2007年受各式各樣的小傷困擾，即使
他沒辦法再次打出.333的打擊率，但是他還是打出了.270，18轟，92分打
點。McCann自己認為他的穩定度出了一點問題，但是他很高興爆發力依然
有打出來。
即使帶著左腳踝的傷勢，他依然比國聯任何一個捕手打出了更多的打點。
Russell Martin是打點榜上的第二名，但是他的全壘打，長打率更高。
McCann在球季結束後雖然沒有動腳踝的手術，但是他動了眼睛方面的手術
，他相信這可能將是他這輩子看的最清楚的時候。這對與他對戰的投手而
言，可不是啥好消息。
McCann的進攻毫無疑問的好，但是他的防守則很有進步的空間，他的防守
率在國聯倒數第二，而且只有Estrada 跟Torrealba 抓盜壘的功夫輸給他
。不過他在本壘板後的能耐讓勇士的投手在他蹲捕的時候繳出全國聯最好
的3.90ERA 。
Lopez, who didn't play this past season after being released by the Rockies
in Spring Training, looks to be the early favorite to win the backup
catcher's job. He appears to be in top physical shape and has spent much of
the past two months working on his defense with Braves bench coach Chino
Cadahia.
"He's come a long way," Cadahia said. "He looks good back there with his
footwork and everything."
While Lopez isn't the same offensive force who hit 43 homers for the Braves
in 2003, he still is certainly capable of producing numbers that will make
him an adequate backup catcher.
After hitting .278 with 15 homers while dealing with a broken hand in 2005,
Lopez was admittedly upset that the Orioles opted to end his regular days as
a catcher and make him their designated hitter. In 94 games with Baltimore
and Boston during the 2006 season, he hit .251 with eight homers.
Lopez's troubles grew this past season when he hit .375 in 16 Spring Training
at-bats for the Rockies and then was released. He used the situation as
motivation over the past few months, and the emphasis he's placed on
improving his defense was enough for the Braves to award him with a Minor
League contract and Spring Training invite.
"I couldn't ask for a better situation," said Lopez, who has maintained his
Atlanta residence and looks forward to the chance of giving his kids a chance
to see him play on a regular basis this year.
Lopez's potential as a pinch-hitter will also help him in his battle for the
backup spot. While Sammons is a cerebral catcher with great defensive
ability, the club might decide it's best to provide him at least one more
year of Minor League seasoning. He combined to hit .249 with eight homers
with Class A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Mississippi this past season.
While Miller proved adequate as Atlanta's backup during the final months of
this past season, his offensive inconsistencies might send him back to the
Minors. Pena, who won the backup role at the beginning of last season, is a
capable switch-hitter who wasn't able to improve his defensive skills after
suffering a concussion on April 30. He was sent to Triple-A Richmond three
weeks later and was primarily used as a utility player.
