Overview
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
The 24th Chaos Communication Congress (24C3) is the annual four-day =20
conference organized by the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) in Berlin, =20
Germany. First held in 1984, it since has established itself as =93the =20=
European Hacker Conference=94. Lectures and workshops on a multitude of =20=
topics attract a diverse audience of thousands of hackers, =20
scientists, artists, and utopists from all around the world. The =20
24C3s slogan is Volldampf voraus! =96 the German equivalent of =93full =20=
steam ahead=94 =96 a particular request for talks and projects featuring =
=20
forward looking hands-on topics. The Chaos Computer Club has always =20
encouraged creative and unorthodox interaction with technology and =20
society, in the good tradition of the real meaning of =93hacking=94.
Topics
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
The 24C3 conference program is roughly divided into six general =20
categories. These categories serve as guidelines for your submissions =20=
(and later as a means of orientation for your prospective audience). =20
However, it is not mandatory for your talk to exactly match the =20
descriptions below. Anything that is interesting and/or funny will be =20=
taken into consideration.
# Hacking
The =91Hacking=92 category addresses topics dealing with technology, =20
concentrating on current research with high technical merit. =20
Traditionally, the majority of all lectures at 24C3 revolve around =20
hacking.
Topics in this domain include but are in no way limited to: =20
programming, hardware hacking, cryptography, network and system =20
security, security exploits, and creative use of technology.
# Making
The =91Making=92 category is all about making and breaking things and =
the =20
wonderful stuff you can build in your basement or garage. Most =20
welcome are submissions dealing with the latest in electronics, 3D-=20
fabbing, climate-change survival technology, robots and drones, steam =20=
machines, alternative transportation tools and guerilla-style knitting.
# Science
The =91Science=92 category covers current or future objects of =
scientific =20
research that have the potential to radically change our lives, be it =20=
basic research or projects conducted for the industry.
We are looking for talks and papers on the state of the art in this =20
domain, covering subjects such as nano technology, quantum computing, =20=
high frequency physics, bio-technology, brain-computer interfaces, =20
automated analysis of surveillance cctv, etc.
# Society
Technology development causes great changes in society and will =20
determine our future. This category is for all talks on subjects like =20=
hacker tools and the law, surveillance practices, censorship, =20
intellectual property and copyright issues, data retention, software =20
patents, effects of technology on kids, and the impact of technology =20
on society in general.
# Culture
Shaping the world we live in means making it more interesting, =20
entertaining and beautiful. The hacker culture has many facets =20
ranging from electronic art objects, stand-up comedy, geek =20
entertainment, video game and board game culture, music, 3D art to e-=20
text literature and beyond. If you like to show your art and teach =20
others how to make their lives more enjoyable, this category is for you.
# Community
In addition to individual speakers the Chaos Communication Congress =20
is also inviting groups such as developer teams, projects and =20
activists to present themselves and their topics.
Developer groups are also encouraged to ask for support to hold =20
smaller on-site developer conferences and meetings in the course of =20
the Congress.
Further Information
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
The Chaos Communication Congress is a non-profit oriented event and =20
speakers are not paid. However, financial help on travel expenses and =20=
accommodation is possible. It needs to be agreed upon after =20
acceptance of the submission, though. Don't be shy and state your =20
requirements when submitting your lecture and we'll work something out!
You can find the preliminary agenda and additional information on our =20=
24C3 website at http://events.ccc.de/congress/2007/.

Submissions
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
All proposals must be submitted online using our online lecture =20
submission system at https://cccv.pentabarf.org/submission/24C3. =20
Please follow the instructions given there. If you have any questions =20=
regarding your submission, feel free to contact us at 24c3-=20
content@cccv.de but do NOT submit your lecture via e-mail.
Language
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
24C3 is an international event and we want to have a lot of =20
interesting talks in English for the benefit of our growing number of =20=
international guests. So ideally we are looking for speakers who can =20
give lectures and/or workshops in either English or German. But while =20=
we are interested in maximum quality of presentation, the topic and =20
its relevance to our community are our main concern. So don't worry =20
about your English skills: the language of a submission is not a =20
criteria for accepting or rejecting it!
If you feel insecure talking in English, have received criticism on =20
your language skills from your audience before, or if you just fear =20
that the value and understandability of your lecture might suffer, =20
please offer your talk in German. Please tell us if you are a native =20
speaker of English or have similar skills, when submitting your lecture.
Lecture Requirements
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
Lectures should not exceed 45 minutes plus up to 10 minutes for =20
questions and answers. Longer time slots are possible if we feel the =20
topic demands it (please tell us if necessary). Workshops should =20
include a talk on the basic principles and a practical hands-on section.
