1.with carbon dioxide
R-Mg-X + CO2 then H2O -----> RCOOH
2.with α β unsaturated aldehydes and ketones
a.strong reductant(R-Li R-Mg-Br) then water
=====>react with C=O bond to form allylic alcohols (C=C- called allyl group)
b.weaker reductant(R2-Cu-Li) then water
=====>react with C=C bond to form ketones (R group bond to distal carbon)

Protecting an alcohol as a tert-butyldimethylsilyl ether
R-OH + Cl-TBDMS -----> R-O-TBDMS
Deprotecting
R-O-TBDMS + (CH3CH2CH2CH2)4N(+)F(-) -----> R-OH + F-TBDMS
