Pair of unbeatens square off in Bronx New York (17-17) vs. Cleveland (15-17), Wednesday, 7:05 p.m. ET By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com NEW YORK -- Pitchers' duels don't always work out as advertised, but in the case of Wednesday's slate at Yankee Stadium, Yankees manager Joe Girardi certainly seemed to like his chances of seeing a well-pitched ballgame. Two undefeated hurlers will go head-to-head as the Yankees and Indians play the second game of a three-game series in the Bronx, with Cliff Lee (5-0, 0.96 ERA) facing off against Chien-Ming Wang (6-0, 3.00 ERA). Perhaps one of their unscuffed records will not be tarnished with a loss, but certainly both will not be able to win. "Lee has been outstanding as well as Wang," Girardi said. "He had some physical problems last year, but he's healthy this year and he's thrown the ball exceptionally. You look at his strikeout-to-walk ratio, and it's unbelievable. Our guy is 6-0, and we're 7-0 in his starts. It should be a good matchup." The left-handed Lee was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for April after he won his first five starts, holding opposing batters to a .151 (19-for-126) batting average, the lowest mark in the circuit. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Lee's .163 on-base percentage allowed is the lowest against a pitcher in his first five starts of the season in 99 years (Frank Smith of the 1909 White Sox had a .159 on-base percentage, in a far different era.) Wang has a little bit of history going on his side. Tied for first in the AL in wins, Wang is attempting to become the first Yankees starter to begin the season 7-0 from the start of the year since Mike Mussina won each of his irst seven starts in 2003. Wang will hope for similar results from his previous start against the Indians, on April 27 at Progressive Field, where he threw seven scoreless innings and struck out a season-high nine batters to record a victory in New York's 1-0 shutout. Pitching matchup NYY: RHP Chien-Ming Wang (6-0, 3.00 ERA) Wang is making his eighth start of the season and his fifth regular-season start against Cleveland, his second of the year. In his last start, Wang recorded the win in the Yankees' 5-1 victory over the Mariners, hurling six innings of three-hit, one-run ball. Wang was just the third Yankees starter to go 5-0 in April, joining Andy Pettitte (1997) and Mussina (2003). CLE: LHP Cliff Lee (5-0, 0.96 ERA) The dilemma that comes with being Lee these days is that allowing any runs at all can be viewed as a disappointment. Lee could toss a complete game against the Yanks, allow just one run and his road ERA will still receive a noticeable rise. The next road run Lee allows will be the first this season, and he's already made three road starts. His stretch of 27 straight scoreless innings overall came to an end at home against the Mariners on Wednesday night, when he allowed three runs on eight hits, with no walks and three strikeouts, in six-plus innings. But it was still another strong outing from the resurrected Lee. Tidbits Hideki Matsui has extended his career-high hitting streak to 15 games and is batting .364 (20-for-55) over the stretch, with three doubles, a homer and nine RBIs. ... Derek Jeter has eight hits in his past 13 at-bats. ... Nine of Jason Giambi's 13 hits this season have been for extra bases. ... The Yankees are 2-3 this season against the Indians and have lost just four times in their past 21 regular-season games vs. Cleveland at Yankee Stadium. http://tinyurl.com/5lheov -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.109.23.108
